Interesting reading, it seems they are going to tie in the research skills to the agents as well as the trading skills.
And me thinking a research character would be different from a trader who would be different from a fixer... oh well, better the skills come in to the game than have them remain inactive :)

Hmm..
Half of me went "WAHEY!" (I have the agents, atrributes and the skills to take davantage of such a system)
The other half went..
"Ermm... eh? Wa?!"
Its a fair bit different to anything previously discussed.. may take some time to cogitate on the idea.

if it works it seems to be fair anyway and hopefully a fun way to get BPs

Fair.. yes it may be fair... I'm just not sure its what was anticipated. I suspect that that is Eldariel's point at least... (and half mine)
When did being a researcher require you to also be an "agent *****"?
(Though i know the answer -"from whenever this patch goes live")
good/bad? - neutral atm

"When did being a researcher require you to also be an "agent *****"?"
... I think 'tis going to be just one of the possible research ways... well as long as all those "Adv.<whatever> Research Suite" modules actually make it in the game at some point.. o.O

There's no denying the potential to increase research complexity in the future - and given this announcement I've got to hope this is at least planned
The main "ouch" associated with this is that the advanced features, which will make research a genuine career in its own right (with some interesting things to do other than just agent missions), probably won't make it into the game for another 6-12 months.
I know quite a lot of people who've been "hanging on" because they thought t2 would bring the research component they have been waiting for. Many of them, on reading that thread, were seriously considering throwing the towel in
Still, guess we'll just have to wait and see ...

i had thought that to advance as a researcher would take skills and eather a finished product or a tech1 BP to work with
there is no way im doing 400+ agent missions
thats not researching its @$$ kissing
i so hope agents are not "the way" for higher tech stuff untill soonÖ happens next year |

What bothers me about this, is that it was buried in patch review, then had to be dug out and cross posted to the general forum...and most people will still not see it!
Come on CCP! This is probably _the_ most important single announcement you've made...erm...ever! Can't this sort of news be put somewhere where people who don't read the forums can see it?
Yes, I know it'll be in the patch notes, but by that point people who haven't got the message of "get a nice spread of l3 agents and up your research skill before the next big patch" will have been left a fair few weeks behind.
I'm only ranting because the implants and BPs thing was hinted at way before it happened, and being lucky enough to catch the hint buried in the missions forum gave one a huuuuge advantage when that particular patch came out. Having read the Research topic - no where did I see a comment about having to do missions.
Comment was you build up points/second based on your skill level, then use these points to buy BP when and if you get an option to.
Or did I get this wrong..

You don't need to do missions to get the points, but you do need the agents in the first place.
