Do any exist....
I had a vision of dedicated professionals (not pirates) hunting down targets for a fee or providing security services for corps?
I have seen lots of gate gankers and corp wars but not many Mercenary organisations?
If anyone knows of any successful ones please post here?

There is the dissapointing fact that a mercenary will be labeleed a griefer/pirate by their target.
how is the target to know any difference? -----

I used to have a Merc corp, we did hits all the time on major corp CEO's. But merc's are considered griefers most of the time . Most places we got ppl were mining, so the whole killing the carebear thing really ruined it.
But they didn't really realize we had been watching them for quite a while to pinpoint the attack at the best possible time and most vunerable time-(thats what the pros do). Call it what you want, merc's still exist, and I'm not opposed to maybe slipping in a few hits here and there.
Give me a buzz, we can negotiate a deal.

Have to pay good money for this kind of service.
What u after, securing a system or contract hits?.
Contract hits arnt worth it, as ppl would want risk/reward kinda cash.
Securing a system for miners wouldnt be a problem though.
As long as it isnt jan/obe/ .

I was looking more towards joining or starting a corp. Myself and a few friends are into PVP, but we are bored silly by the whole mining corp slavery thing, but at the same time being a gate ganker does not appeal

Brutors are most likely automatically disqualified from that list..

Ahhhhhh, well in that case, u are most welcome to join the most active anti/pirate corp in the game, that being us.
DB preacher always seems to get in there before me, but we fight alongside them, so no harm done in joining either.
DB, hope that hangover is gone, thats what u get for a mad drinking weekend, wouldnt catch me doing that .

We're mercenaries. But the point is to many people hate mercs ingame because they switch sides very often (depends who pays more ;)... and are mistaken for pirates.
Also pirates sometimes do work pretty same as mercs (just buy letter of marque ..
ahhh, i think I play to much Tortuga, and Port Royale lately (at least these games have great dynamic political system, and trade :)

Honestly, if I was CEO of a mercenary corporation I wouldnŠt give a damn. Communication with your target is not required (in most cases), so actually I wouldnŠt even bother to read a targetŠs mail I mean seriously... talking to your target is not part of your contract so who cares what your target has to say.
Really if I was to lead a mercenary corp rule #1 would be:
-Do not under any circumstance communicate with your target if it isnŠt necessary to complete your mission. Answering mails from targets is not allowed.
Simple as that. Saves you from a lot of smacktalk and makes everything much more 'professional'.

Man darth, i really am sorry! You're right though, I do seem to pop up and snaffle folks before you get a chance sometimes ...
Maybe we should just start putting feelers out for every second one :)
My hangover is getting better! Its just my folks and work I need to get past now.
