I have a sony Vaio FS660W. I know recently there has been recalls on the batteries but mine were not part of said recall.
Well problem is, my battery life utterly sucks. I have heard similar complaints from other vaio owners on random forums :P
Was wondering if maybe because I always operate it using the AC adapter that it is killing my battery life since I also have my battery in at the same time. Should I take my battery off my laptop while operating with the AC adapter?

Some laptops are smart and completely divert power from the battery and take it all from the AC power.
Some laptops are stupid and run power through the battery, overheating and shorting its life by over 60% I would say.
And some laptops just won't work without a ruddy battery in them, but thats mostly older models pre 2002 --------------

Mine works without the battery, I took it out to test. But once before I took it out while running AC and it short circuited my motherboard and I had to get it repaired ( glad I had warranty, the invoice said it woulda been around 700$ to repair )

Normal operation of the laptop on AC, with the VAIO range should allow it to work without the batter in, and it should bypass it while on mains.
Something you can do, is drain the battery completely - and by that I mean so it won't light a LED up.
Wrap it in a completely sealed plastic bag, and whack it in your freezer for at least 24 hours. See if that helps any. This works bny realigning the poles on the battery - works on mobile phones too!

I have a laptop, it's not a sony, it's a Toshiba Equium m70 and the battery is terrible, absolutely appaling. It doesn't last 25 mins from a full charge. I too mostly use the laptop whilst it is running on AC and all indications show that it basically isolates the battery whilst doing so but it's life was short from the day I bought it. *shrugs*

Have you checked to see if yours was recalled? But yea mine is the same, I usually get like 20 mins use. Sometimes its so bad I can sit here and count down and watch it go down. Example: its at 100% now, if I were to unplug it, it would immediately goto around 95%
Edit: on another note of suckiness, I didnt realize when I bought it, but my sony vaio FS660W, which came with 1gb ram, is expandable to... 1gb...

Used to have an Alienware laptop (it was stolen) and I couldn't even boot it up on full battery before it would die. Even new it would only run about an hour (desktop processor, it was a power-hog).
