Of course it's true. And it is awesome. It's nothing you couldn't have done already with address book and show info. But it takes away a whole lot of hassle and lag.
I can't see why anyone would be against this.

It's usually along hte lines of "but omg the carebears will see me and log!!!". I don't htink this is true myslef, as anyone who is paying attention will see local jump and check for the newcomer anyway. And as you said, this way will take less hassle and lag.

I dont know why people are getting upset about this....
Any person living in lowsec, or 0.0 always (or really should!) keep an eye on local, once a new comer jumps in, everyone, and yes everone in local right clicks->show info->standinfs...there can be 10-30 hits on the database for the newcomers info, hence load, hence lag.....now all we need to do is scroll through the list of players....faster....no BD hits ....less lag....

Havnt using stabs since my first few weeks in eve but thanks anyway... keep up those impressive brain waves your having. This wasnt intended to be a smack session until you uber cool leet pvpr's dropped us with our "deep" thoughts!

I find it amusing that people have been requesting this feature for ages now, with no whining in sight against it. Now they have put it in, all the whiners are coming out of the woodwork.
You had the time to have your say and you didn't. This feautre will further decrese lag on the client and as was said, this is nothing that isn't already being done with the laggy buddy list and sitting outside enemy stations all day in a covert ship making a list of names.

Great work CCP  It's makes empire wars a lot more fun because you dont have to manage the buddy list and right click > show info all the time.
It's an advantage for both sides because it's information that was already there but just a pain in the ass to get.

The only disadvantage I see is that of less player interaction caused by accidently double clicking for convo instead of show info.

On a serious note, all this really does is save us a few seconds of our time when a new face hits local, I really dont see it as a big deal.

Although there could maybe be an occasional con, i think in the end its just a plain useful feature.
AFAIk, it works ONLY when you set standings between you and the other player/corp/alliance, and/or when your corp/alliance sets standings to another player/corp/alliance. Is this correct?
If so, i doubt very much that all people in eve will have set standings to all others. A victim of piracy might set standings to a couple pirates he ran into and he will see them entering local easier. But that doesnt mean he wont or wouldnt check their info anyways.
As an occasional pirate myself, i don't really see this affecting piracy. For pvp, and especially empire wars, this is VERY useful. And i think i don't have to list the reasons why. |

The truth is that whether we like the feature or not, it needs to be added. Goonfleet has been using a database program to add this feature to thier local windows for a while, now. we need to at least level the playing field.
