I have PE5 which states - Skill at efficiently using factories. 4% reduction per skill level to the material requirements needed for production.
Now I read this as 4% reduction on material requirements (minerals ???) per skill level.....correct? So if Im at PE5 that means 20% reduction in mat. req.
So if a widowmaker heavy missile BPO's material requirements are as follows:
Tri - 644 Pyr - 2 Mex - 5 Nox - 3
Why when I go to make them are my requirements as follows:
Tri - 644 Pyr - 2 Mex - 5 Nox - 3
Waste: Tri - 64 Pyr - 1
If I get 20% material reduction due to PE5 why are my mineral requirements still the same????

wastage you are still seeing is from the me of the bpo? Is that researched at all?
An unresearched bpo has a wastage factor of 10%, the trit is right there. |

When you look at the bill of materials, it show materials needed for "You" and "Perfect". This reflects PE skill. Since you said you were at 5, You and Perfect are the same. This does not take into consideration ME research on the BPO...that won't show just by looking at the BP.

There are two sources of mineral "waste" in manufacturing: Material Efficiency in the BPO (ME level) and skill waste, or rather, unskilled waste.
Someone who just picks up a BPO and slaps it into a factory with no skill in production will inherently be more clumsy and prone to waste, so out of the pod you use 20% more minerals to make something.
Production Efficiency reduces this by 4% per level, until you get to the point where your skill is sufficient that you do not waste any minerals. At that point, the only way to save more minerals is to do ME research on the BPO.

the BPO shows the cost based on your skills
when you dont have PE 5 you see that (perfect : X, you : Y) but at PE 5 it just shows perfect stuff
then it's research ------

Was wondering why I didnt see (perfect : X, you : Y) but even when I look at it under the items database for the widowmaker it shows the same values as I listed. Is my character and skills linked to the item database on the forums as well?

In a way, yes. The forums item database lists only "perfect" mineral costs. Your skill gives you perfect mineral costs, so in essenece, they are the same.
For you X and Y are the same numbers. The item database shows only X. The BPO show info shows both, but they are = because of your skills. ___________________________________________ The deeper you stick it in your vein, the deeper the thoughts there's no more pain. ___________________________________________

I think the answer of the OP's question is, that with PE0 you start with a mineral factor of 1.25. Now every level of reduces this factor by 4% (e.g. 0.05 (1.25*0.04=0.05)) until you have a factor of 1.00 at PE5.

Yep, and then you add the BP "wastage" factor listed in the first page of the BPO/BPC to each mineral value Yuo can not go at 0% wastage, but you CAN go low enough so that it gets rounded down to 0 (as soon as you have total waste under 0.5 unit).
So for each BP in particular, you have a certain level of ME where you end up wasting nothing... it's just that ME level is insanely high on most "useful" blueprints (anything other than small modules or frigates, that is). _____ -sig-
