This are the views of a newbie, so trolls please stay away.
The one thing that EVE is really missing are Achievements!
Think about it. In WoW, whenever you get an achievement, everyone congratulates you, your guild and anyone around you, who saw it. And it makes you feel good. It makes you feel you achieved something. It gives you something to show off. And it bonds you with everyone who congratulates you. It gives you a talking point, when things fall silent in your guild.
On the other hand, there's nothing like that in EVE. Only time someone talks in EVE is when they have a question about a mechanic, they don't fully understand. So in corp, there is a lot of silence and rarely anything that bonds you to your fellow members of your corp. |

Will just say that this is not entirely true, I remember on some of the more active days of a corp I was in there being a discussion about the possibility of launching rodents from one persons house in the south of the us to someone else in Iceland. lots of talk of fuel and putting little nose cones on its had were had.
So if you are with a good set of guys (or girls) you can generally get some form of conversation going.

I thought I was the Dark Lord of GD? I had business cards printed up and everything. Crap
Well hell, I guess I'll have to settle for being Dark Lord of Missions and Complexes, which for some reason seems slightly less prestigious. |

I don't refund business card expenses, but hold on to them! There may come a time when I retire, and need to name an heir... and having the cards printed up already might make my decision easier...

That first sentence may well end up with an achievement... of the wrong kind.
Are not achievements in 'that other game' a substitute for meaningful interaction?

It's one of the things NPE is missing. There is no 'greater goal' in new player corps. It's a spot where you sort of establish a niche for yourself but it doesn't really give you scale in EVE and doesn't really offer you the tools to go after an objective even if you could find one.
There are a number of larger goals in EVE but they are all long term, intended to be joint effort goals. One of the reasons I would have liked to see a planet side mini game would be to scale a player to New Eden. Give every new player one unit of Marine. Let them rig a ship with a drop pod and deploy to a planet. That's you in New Eden. Allow them to build up an army, 250 marines and gear them, play overlord at a single player level but start it with a single unit of personnel to draw scale. Experience in such a mini game when translated back to your character lets you see what you truly need to do in EVE to reach objectives. Even something as basic as making your own T2 ship. You need someone making the T2, someone making the T1, someone making the BPC's, someone gathering the datacores, someone making the rigs, someone making the fittings, someone making all the things that make that ship work. EVE is a game of community and we are micromanaging individual components in large machines. I'm sure there are other ways to show new players the scale of the New Eden ecosystem but the planet side mini game seemed the most logical to me. The way to show new people they need to integrate themselves in to New Eden and at the same time, offer a distraction while time based long, term goals take shape. All happening on a level of New Eden that can support it, unlike current Sov map that doesn't support it.
tl;dr we are all little fish in a big pond but little fish make giant schools.

This idea is contrary to the basic concept of eve. It belongs in WoW and should stay there. I personally feel that seeking external approval for a sense of self satisfaction is something that typically should end in adolescence. To me adults set their own personal goals and are satisfied when they reach their own personal finish line.
I'm in my 40's, at my age if people were congratulating me for stuff I'd want to know what kind of medication they were on. |

No, what eve is missing is a Damage Over Time attack or weapon system.
Imagine it! =D Your target is in structure, has been hit a few times with the DoT ammo, is able to break point and warp away, escaping you, only to get a notification moments later for a killmail after the DoT attack finished the job and they exploded while in warp.

You are in the wrong corp and this explains why you are looking for external gratification. This is eve it is a sandbox. You make your own content, content is not spoon fed to you in a linear and non-deviating format. If you were planing and doing stuff together then your corp chat would be busy.
My corp isn't all that big and there is always stuff going on in it. If you guys were doing stuff together there would be in your corp's chat as well. So start making plans and / or forming fleets and do stuff and corp chat won't be so silent. Well unless you whole corp is in fleet and then fleet chat will be busy but you get my point.
On a somewhat related note why would you assume that your corps chat channel is identical to everyone else's? Do you always assume that everyone else has the exact same experience as you? This is not meant to be demeaning but I am curious of your age.
