I hit my 1 year recently.
I joined a training corp a couple of days in, and I learned quickly. When the CEO and guru ****** off/****** everyone over I was the one who took the helm at the head of a little council. Our little group carried the corp and founded a new one. I have 15M SP and a set of +3s, I hit my 1B in wallet mark around the same time as my Eve birthday, and have close to another bill in assets.
I've learned a lot about people, about how to be a CEO. I have a group of corpmates I can trust, and who trust me enough to lead, but not so much that they don't tell me the things I need to hear when I get*****y. We're in the process of moving out to 0.0 shortly as a corp in ISS and I feel I've found something I can believe in and fight for.
I haven't made as much money as some, because I haven't really joined anyone's established system. Our corp is forging its own path ahead and we've had far fewer quitters than most corps I've seen. I have new projects lined up and I'm happy. And I have a shiny new sig a very nice man made for me!
Eve has taught me so very much about people. How to manage them, salve their pride, keep them moving, and how to lead by example. I may not rise high but I'm carrying and helping a lot of people on my way. I'm proud of my guys and honoured to fly with them.

I'm a total newb in EVE, been in the game less than a month, haven't done or seen anything. But I think the game is way more fun when you _don't_ have anything, where every step is a step up from nothing.
So far my impression of EVE is good. Not as good or as fun as the front-runner MMO ( you know who I mean ) but for what it is, I'm sure it will be quite satisfying as an off-day hobby. And perhaps more satisfying yet once they improve it more with additional content.
I'm looking forward to improving my character to the point where it will be useful for warfare in a corp. I've delayed joining a Corp exactly because I don't want to pick one until I'm significant enough to be an asset.
