Edited by: Caffeine Junkie on 27/10/2006 09:15:48 As CCP is extending the downtime on 1st November 2006 in order to install much needed hardware upgrades. Will they also extended everyone's account by one day?
I know the upgrades are needed.

I like that date, because its the same day im going for a second job interview (no, not for CCP :) ). Second interview must mean Im doing something right...
And no, I dont think they will be extending everyone's account, and thats OK with me. It comes with the territory in these games. And they are doing it to boost our playing experience.

Edited by: PaddyPaddy Nihildarnik on 27/10/2006 09:16:11 ah actually they (a gym) should credit you a days membership if you complained about it. Its your right to ask for an extention onto your contract if the product was made unavailiable via ccp's actions. Whether this is in the agreement we sign with ccp is really the question. There is probably some small print absolving liability
EDIT: but like another poster has already commented, this is kinda penny pinching... They will prob send you some new mechandise if you pressed the issue just to shut you up...

As remeber, 1 day for EVE is about $.40... Talk about being a pinch penny if you want that refunded.

Laythun might sound harsh, but this question comes up basicly every single time there's a long DT.
As pr TOS or EULA (or some other random ruleset we agreed to), we are not entitled to free days because of DT.
Btw, we're talking about 0.5ú or less pr account...

Would be too harsh.
For us, losing a day usually means 1/365th loss of potential playtime. For CCP, losing one day of payments means much larger chunk of their needed yearly profit (perhaps in order of 1/30th).
Although, CCP has at least once given such extra day to players due some persistant hardware server problems.
If you feel its grossly unfair, we could have democratic vote among players, with question like 'May CCP use one full day to improve servers?'...

Risking to repeat something mentioned probably dozens of times if you search for it:
I'd rather been unable to use my account for a day than have the monthly charge increase.
Think of it like this: One day of play is, what, worth 70 cents? 70 cents for an otherwise completely free upgrade sounds fair for me.
Of course, feel free to ask again, after each upgrade, but the answer will very likely stay the same: No.
The real question is: Will the damn Jump Queues disappear with more power? Here's to hoping YES - if not with just the few more machines come Nov 1st.
Just yesterday, assembling a proper blob to chase a couple offenders was severely hindered by JUMP QUEUES - they got away.

Our personal gain from a free day is extremely low money wise, while the loss for CCP would be gigantic. Ç0.5 times how many accounts? 50.000? 100.000?

err why do you want a day extention?
you are not loosing anything except the ISK made by the day, if you were able to play on that 1st nov. or to have some fun in eve.
that's why they always write "set long time skill training", so you dont loose training time, while the servers getting there needed hardware upgrade.
If you dont set them, its your own "stupid" fault. (and you are better if you set the skill time for more then 24hours in case something ****ty happens)
And the other good point, we might get off the lag that was annoying so much of us the past weeks, so it might be totally acceptable to wait 24hours and just hope that it will really fix the prob.

Patch days are the perfect day to take the wife/gf out to dinner (but dont tell them its patch day you nubs).
End result, shes happy, servers get new hamsters, and you get to play for the next few days completely unnagged!

CCP have stated a 2 day downtime is minimum to consider account refunds - even then would be doubtful a 3 day downtime might attract and account delay refund etc

I'm not bothered about the downtime, but here's a statistic:
30,000 users at 0.5ú each is ú15,000 for CCP for one day downtime. Not bad for a days work.

Well actually they used to do this. However i believe this was before CCP got the publication rights. I remember when if it was a long DT, we'd get reimbursed. And although i miss it, CCP would loose tonnes of cash for it, and its such a small amount of money individually. It was understandable back when it was 3000 players

Amazing how inconsiderte people are sometimes..
You're getting a free upgrade to the game and yet you dont want to pay the tech guys the 50 cents for the time it takes.

Add me to the list of people who would rather CCP spent the approx $60,000 USD on more hardware/overtime payments in QA/beer for the devs etc etc. towards a better game.
I do not need $0.40 refunded to me and this is one of the most unoriginal topics ever.
I used to work in customer services for a telecoms company and quite often we would get people ringing up about a ú0.15p error or similar on their account. We would happily give them the refund and apologise for the error. We never pointed out that to get to us they not only took up their time but had to call a local rate number at ú0.04p per minute and queue for 5 minutes if they were lucky and 20+ minutes if it was busy. 10 minutes including the time it took to talk to us @ 4ppm = 40p. All to get a refund for 15p
"But its the principle that matters" they would cry when we we're processing their refund. "I understand completely sir" we would say carefully disguising our smirks on the phone.
Perspective is everything in case like this. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Got Lag? Dev Responses

I know the upgrades are needed.
....discuss/argue/sign etc...
There is NOTHING to discuss. You agree by accepting the eula any downtime that CCP need/is required to ensure the playability of the game. So taking the servers down one day to fit something like 10 more nodes, ramsan and more backbone to the net fits smoothly into this cathegory.
Also I get greatly annoyed by people who sets discuss/argue etc for every stupid topic. there is NOTHING to discuss. Nothing to argue over. This is Needed, and so CCP have to do it to ensure the game stays up!
Also, look on the 40 cents or so u "loose" as an investment in better gameplay. The game will have now run on improved hardware! That should be more then good enough reason for everyone!
And oh pls. dont use discuss anymore. I usually see red in threat that shall discuss or argue on every bloody stupid thing! Specially like this which is allready a settled matter!!
Regards from an annoyed....

CCP is really nice about crediting a account. however for announced downtime like this there is no reason. They annoucned it so you can set your life up around it.
On unannounced downtimes of a day or more they have credited days to everyone's account. but see that is a diffrence between announced and unannounced.

Well, I need to do some study for an exam the following saturday, so at least eve wont be distracting me during this extended downtime.
As for giving us an extra day, it would be nice, but as others have said that doesn't amount to much gain to us personally. So I dont care eaither way.

We're taking the servers down for a day to give you better servers. No refunds.
We're sorry the servers are down because Gnauton spilled his guiness on the new server bits we plugged in yesterday. Refunds.
