So I keep getting this level 1 mission, and I fly my Destroyer in, and am killed within seconds of entering the first gate. Is this mission beatable or what?

Once you fly into the first gate go directly to the second gate and enter it.
World's collide is very difficult if you are attempting to clear the 2nd room considering you don't have a good tank this early in the game.
Also, Make sure your flying into the correct first gate... IE read the mission instructions :P

Doing it in a Destroyer should be easy, which tanking mods are you fitting?
Also, if you're doing the Guristas/Cartel version, go through the Cartel gate, not through the Guristas base.
I remember I could do them very easily in a Merlin, as long as I didn't go to the guristas base :p

I had to go get my main for this mission when I got it while running lvl 1 courier missions It was actualy able to get through my shields on my enyo when most lvl 1 missions hardly get through the sheilds on my alts probe.

best ship for this mission i found was my Condor
I could complete the mission in about 10 mins 2x rocket launchers and a nos sehild booster + cold gas AB nanofiber in he low
just AB to the first gate (cartel gate) then once in the second area AB over the top of the 3 guarding the second gate ingnoring the the ones shooting at you boosting sheild when neccasry, and jump thru again kill the 3 herons loot the can ...done
sub 10 min worlds collide
of course to kill all the spwns requires quite a few skills for tanking and shooting and rockets prolly arnt the best for that way either and thru the second gate is hell even for a well trained frigate piloet

I just got offered this mission - was looking for something a little different than level 1 courier missions.
Can I do it in a frigate?

Not only can you do it in a frigate, you are forced to do it in either a frigate or a destroyer.
I did it in a Condor myself.
2 x Standard Missile Launchers w/Bloodclaws Named Shield Booster, Named Kinetic Active Hardener Nano in low
Activate hardener. Run through first area without fighting. In second area, only attack those that attack you while heading away from enemies. After they are dead, head to warp gate. If any more aggro, again run away and only attack the ones attacking you. In last area, head away from enemies and again only kill those necessary. Scoop the loot from the Heron and get outta there. Use shield booster as needed, don't forget to turn it off.

Should I fit anything to improve the armor of my ship or just go with as much speed as possible?

I've got a Tristan.
It has 2 150mm Scout I Accelerator Cannons. 1mn Afterburner I Small Cap. Booster I Small Shield Booster I
Low power slots have cargo expanders and an armor repairer - so I could easily take the cargo expanders off if I'm doing something more dangerous like this mission.

I've no experience with Gallente ships, but I imagine an armor hardener vs the npc damage type would be a good thing.

no need for clearing the areas. but a destroyer is quite big and slow and will receive a little too much damage due to its relatively huge signature. i always preferred a frigate in my early days and just 'afterburned' my way to the second gate. the last foes (the ones you are actually required to kill) are quite easy

I'd try this: Mid: 1x 1MN Afterburner 1x Cap Recharger 1x Stasis Webifier or 1 more cap recharger
Low: 1x Small Armor Repairer 2x Resistance Plates vs your mission NPCs
Activate the armor repairer in bursts when you need it.

Thanks for the suggestions. It gives me some ideas of different set ups to try. Is using a shield booster and an armor repairer in the same set up kind of redundant? Is a cap recharger is different from a cap booster?

I would use one or the other for shields or armour. If you start trying to do too much at once, you'll probly end up with no ship.
Also cap recharger gives you a boost to your cap recharge, cap booster is used with ammo group (cap boosters) and shoots a fixed amount of cap into your ship.

To tank well, you have to fit resistance mods - either shield resistance amplifiers/hardeners for shield tanking or armor resistance plating/hardeners for armor tanking. So if you try to both shield and armor tank at once, you will have to fit 2x as many mods.
So, stick with pure armor tank if you're flying gallente ships and doing gallente missions. I.e. capacitor mods in medium slots, repairers and resistance mods in low slots.

I ran the level ones with my cormorant quite easily, even clearing the angel cartel's room of all rats before going on to the research gate. My set up was 7x125mm's named one standard launcher in the highs. Two small shield extenders a shield booster and passive kinetic resist amp in the mids and a pds in the low. The strategy i used was gate in and sit still and kill the rats that jump you with Antimatter rounds....Then I would switch to iridium rounds and sitting in the same spot start to snipe off the other rats. IF you pick a spawn and fire a full 7 gun volley at each target they pop before they get into your range. Good luck and this is now one of my favorite level one missions.
Upon closer inspection, that Caldari BS doesn't even look like it got hit with the ugly stick, it looks like it *is* the ugly stick. |
