Hi!
I'm not sure how much changes to ECM-modules have been discussed earlier. I have thought it a bit and noticed that safe bet ECM-fitting is to fit multispectral jammers. If you really know the enemy then you should fit racials of course. But there seems to be nothing in between these two options. If you are going deep to enemy space, bringing ECM is not a good option if you don't fit multispecs. I think there should be more options.
Would it be possible to introduce ECM module that uses ammo or laser-like crystals to change between racial jammings? Changing ammo could take as long as it takes on normal weapons, but this could be done in space also. This would increase the interest in ECM and could still give experienced players more possibilities.
Fixed fitting is dead. Lets make the game more dynamic!

you mean you would like to be able to script them like tracking disruptors and sensor dampenors

I don't mean more range or strength to all, but to change from Gravitmetric to Radar by changing "ammo" so that the ecm strength on that attribute is enchanced. |

Makes a lot of sense to me, assuming ECCM has its behaviour changed accordingly also.
With EvE being a racial melting pot and tending to be diverse as to predictable, it would give more purpose to these underpowered tools rather than it being left to a roll of the dice wether a suitable target is available or forcing over equipping on mods. |

Yes, this is certainly needed. ECM is really underpowered at present, and needs to be useful in a wider range of situations.

Any devs care to comment if this has been tested at CCP? |

I fully support scripted ECM Modules, there is a real need for flexability on ECM boats. I also support dropping optimal on scripted modules to 50% of where they are now. This would make it so that ECM boats running racial scripts are in tackle range to get full effect. Also it drops the other racial jam strengths to 0 so you have to have the right script to jam.
I love my Falcon btw... |

Surely though you are effectively asking for a strength boost? Strength in this case being limited by your decision as to which racial you have fitted.
If you have a multi which you can script for any specific fight you have gained a strength boost for that fight. As far as ECM goes I for one am happy that this is a decision that had to be made in station and subsequently effects target selection when in space.
The effect would be heightened on bonused ships, notably the falcon. Falcon already has a good jam chance with a racial, and not too shabby with an off-racial either. Having a full rack of correct racials on-demand is going just a little too far imho.
I'm a Falcon/ Rook pilot myself, and I honestly wouldn't want to see this as it would almost have to be followed with a nerf to Caldari E-war boats to keep things sane.
I can see where this would be very useful when only fitting 1-2 ECM on an unbonused hull, but again it's a decision as to whether a Multi would be as useful as a different mod in that mid slot. I occasionally fit certain ships with a single jammer for specific purposes, but I accept that I'm taking a risk doing so. ECM drones are already good enough (too good perhaps?) for most situations where I'm using an unbonused ship to jam with. |

No no no no no no.
Falcons and Rooks would be WAY overpowered with this. The only way to balance it out would be to severely gimp the Falcon and Rook.
I'm a falcon pilot and what you suggest would require a rebalanced for a ship class that has already been balanced from insanely powerful to useful.

I don't support this idea, for the simple reason that if you were to use crystals, (assuming they only changed the type of ECM) there's no reason for you to say that they need 5-10s to change crystals, Lasers take as long as you do +1sec. For no reason should I HAVE to put ammo in my ECM mods. Scripts maybe, but ammo, no thank you.
As for scripting them, that would make them overpowered, while we are seeing Tech3 boats with sensor strength of 30+ this should not be a reason to unbalance the current lineup, CCP may have a plan for this or new t3 boats that don't suck at ECM.
Sure, the versitility would be nice, but not if you are gimping the range with a script...what Remote sensor damp looses range because you use a script... |
