Edited by: Neolesphares on 05/11/2003 16:07:23 Hi all!
A few days ago I bought my new Moa and want to get a pirate hunter with it. The time before I only was mining with my Thorax. So I want to ask you, what modules and weapons have you fitted in your Moa? And what do you think it's good for pirate hunting?
Tell me about it! It would be really great!

TBH I'd sell it and get a rupture.
I think the Moa is criminally over-rated as a cruiser. The thorax is better for rat hunting and the rupture its better PvP, so it sort of falls between the two...
Just my opinion though. Its not law or anything. I'm sure the moa fanboys are gnashing their teeth etc.

Thanks Miso, I want PvP..
But what would you fitt your Moa with? Or is the Thorax better?
I don't want to buy and train all the Minmatar Skills, so can anybody help me with this?

Not a case of better, it depends on who you fly with.
I never PvP'd in my Moa ony hunted rats. But then I returned to my thorax cos it was better suited (5 turret hp outweighed the launchers).
For PvP in a Moa, solo, you're looking at cruise in the missile launchers (or torps), maybe one with FoF cruise, projectiles or lasers in the turrets (as many as skills allow).
In the meds, MWD, Shield Hardner of your choice, webber and warp scrambler.
Lows - damage mods and power conduits/cap rechargers.

Is everybody thinking that the Rupture is the best PvP ship?
Then I have to buy it....

thorax's r terrible ships for npc hunting! sure it has 5 turrets compared the moa's 4 however: it has less power and cpu than a moa, meaning you cant fit 5 DECENT medium guns (even with decent enginerring / electronics skills)
it has approx 350 less shields (and lets face it, when u r npc hutning in a cruiser, shields r everything, you dont want to be taking armour dammage!)
it only has 3 med slots also!
It has more low slots than a moa however, but they r needed to fit 2 or 3 power diags to fit 5 decent guns, and even then, you will run out of cap in anytime without a few cap relays (meaning you have 0 slots for dammage mods and there fore doing LESS dammage!)
ALSO! drones r pretty useless if you chain spawning pirates - they will get blown up repeatedly!
TO see how good a moa is this is the set up you want:
HI: 2 x 250mm rail guns 2 x medium lasers (NOT PULSE lasers!) 1 x m12 with defenders 1 x h-50 with cruise missles (for those tight situations)
MED: MWD (set to offline) Med shield booster 2 x shield hardeners (OR! 1 shield hardeners and a cap rechargers)
LOW: 2 x cap recharges (-25% shield recharge, +20% cap recharge) 2 x dammage mods (one laser, 1 hybrid)
With this set up you can sit back at a good 20-30km and hit for wrecking dammage without having to worry about your cap!

Like I said, its all opinion!
Thorax is excellent for NPC - 3x250 hybrids 1x neutron blaster 1 small hybrid for luck
4 med scout drones
Perfect set up. No cap, CPU or power issues.

Could this fitting be effective for a thorax in pvp ? i mean a group (>=2) of them.

I got a Thorax and a Moa. Part of my ship collecting mania.
The Thorax could not hold 4 250mm rails even after the patch, where the power and cap usage on 250mm rails were reduced. I dumped the blasters because being short range only and charging into a spawn with 3 30K and 6 20K cruisers---the 30K ones using Thunderbolt EMP missiles to boot---means you're only going to die.
Instead I now got 3 250mms, plus 2 named Focused medium Pulses with radio Ms. The medium pulses track faster, while the radio Ms mean they have range excess of 20k. This means I can snipe with all five turrets. Change one turret to a smart bomb if you like some antimissile defensive options.
The drones is a factor that is a major damage force all themselves. But after subsequent patches, NPC drones now have AI corrected to shoot at drones if they didn't target your ship first. Thus in a spawn where you have a lot of NPCs all packed together, you risk having your drones attacked by other NPCs. Its better to make sure that other NPCs will not respond against the drones.
Post patch, the Moa can now happily fit four 250mm railguns, and still have enough CPU and powergrid, (maybe with a reactor) to fit 2 H-50s. Combined, this makes an excellent way of whittling down a spawn nest that's full of big rats.
The Moa is also better defensively, given the midslots, which you can put more hardeners or shield extenders.
The missile slots are always an advantage for PvP where they can be loaded with cruise missiles and torps, and protect you from them likewise with defender missiles.
A Moa fitted with PvP combat should consider an ECCM module and sensor boosters. You don't have enough to jam with this thing but maybe you can keep from someone jamming you, unless he can overwhelm your ECCM. That's where your missile launchers come in with FOF missiles to deal with the jammer.
Mainly though PvP combat is really a team operation and ships like the Moa should operate only in concert with other ships especially with EW ships like Blackbirds and Scorpions.
A Thorax for PvP can be a real killer, and it does not matter what turrets you have, so long as you got a lot of heavy drones. But for the ship itself, five heavy blasters (ion or neutron) with an MWD to rush to the enemy, then tear him up close, heavy drones out in a pack hungry for the kill. But like the Moa, the Thorax should best operate in packs with EW ships for cover---PvP is always best as a teamwork, not for solo L33ts.
