I can imagine this isnt the first time this idea has been put forward to the community, or maybe along the same lines. I feel though that it is something that could be easily implemented and would enhance the game overall.
The idea is that every vessel in eve needs fuel to move, from the shutle upwards. And to add to that, have it similar to the way vehicles in real life are. for example a shuttle in eve could be compared to say a moped in regards to fuel requirements and capacities. so it would be quite efficient and yet only have a smallish fuel tank. And obviously the bigger the vessel the more inefficient it becomes but yet its fuel tank gets larger in comparison.
Then obviously we would need fuel stations, in which they would be the only place you could refuel, unless u traied up and bought the new addition of ship class, the fuel tanker. Again with the right skills and mods u could fill up other player ships, outside of stations,,as long as the ship that was intended to be refueled also had the neccesary adapter fitted.
but going back to fuel stations, these would be ncp stations, and the fuel would be created out of ore, which ore is totally irrelevant at the moment, however what isnt irrelevant is the price at which these stations buy ore in at. and that is a set price which doesnt alter. and so the price of fuel too doesnt alter. and so no one or group of people can influence the now most sought after comodity in eve.
For me the thought of having to purchase something like fuel or maybe other things which other people may think eve would benefit from would add a new dimension to the game. Especially if it wasnt made too cheap,,and so the actual cost of filling up could influence changes in peoples style of game play. Any way its an idea and ive created it for open discussion, wether you think its a good idea or bad.

And those of us that live in 0.0 sometimes gets pretty far from any station. So.. um No.

Bad idea..No way ccp would implement something that would limit especially new players flight time in space...

Very bad idea.
So fuel is made form ore in a station... what if there ain't any fuel left in station? Then your stuck with no place to go...
People can't just go fly around for fun, they need isk to just fly somewhere.
And as the previous 2 said, people in 0.0 would be screwed. And CCP is trying to encourage people to go into 0.0.

Good idea in general. Frontier had this implemented. You could either purchase fuel at stations or extract it directly from stars.
Bad idea for EVE as it is now though. Lots of stuff would have to be changed to make this work in EVE.

this is an idea,, and its a discussion board,, So its here to be discussed. ok so make them POS's in low sec and 0.0 and allow whoever owns them to manipulate buy prices and sell prices. I mean it why wouldnt that not add some sort of enhancement to the game,, especially all you pvper's or the alliances, Think how there tactical operations could be altered or affected if enemies could affect or try to affect fuel supplies..

why?
These ships are not like combustion-engine cars which need 'fuel'
fx, if they are using Fusion power, they need barely any fuel for hundreds of years at a time
thats technology available TODAY, never mind thousands of years in the future

capital ships require fuel i can see more specialised small and large ships in the future (perhaps semi jump drive type) requiring small amounts of fuel as a trade off.

Well seeing as most of the minmitar ships seem to have solarpanels on them i think that some races wont need fuel. --------

Atmospheric gases should be convertible to fuel, as well as a partial substitute that halves the ICE isotope requirements on towers.
I really don't see why I should need to be able to travel 150 solar systems in a single day. Once it becomes expensive or impossible, I suddenly won't need to be able to do it anymore because tactics will adjust, and people will choose enemies and friends differently.

If you want to align it to Real Life situation there is something thats called nuclear.
Using nuclear power allows you to say underwater or out at see for indefenet lenghts of time. Only thing that prevents you from staying out is food.
So fuel doesn't nessisary need to be present. And capasitor is kinda the same thing.
Now I'm not a fan of linking stuff in eve to RL, becus of 2 things.
1 it takes the futuristic feel out to much. Makes it more current and less dark and exiting.
2. It's daft to start whit. Becus it's a game and the we shouldn't put to much into it so we stop to realise this is after all a game in the end.

well, with kali blaster and autocannon users will already need a hauler in gang to have enough ammo to kill something so that hauler can carry some fuel too :)
back to topic, while this would add to realism the logistics in 0.0 are already poo enough. what's with a cov ops that spends a week behind enemy lines to report hostile movements? and where to put the fuel? in the cargo bay that is full of ammo and 800 booster charges? please no, it's allready teh sux to get a new ship from the big junk yard that is jita. that's already enough of a waste of time.

While it would add to realism, in the end it would just be an ISK and time sink. The ships now fly without us pilots having to worry about that. If it's added in, the only thing that happens is we have to stop for fuel/pay for fuel. The EVE database has to keep track of yet another thing, whose sole purpose is to just drain ISK from our wallets with no benefit whatsoever.
It's the same as trying to keep track of the ship crews, and requiring us to hire them before leaving station. Extra clicking, extra annoyance, no benefits whatsoever.
Both "fuel" and "crew members" would be direct nerfs to everyone.

All ships in EVE have fusion reactors.
They don't need fuel - or at least that's what Prime Fiction says.

Yeah, great, I'm sure the mag pulse drives need fuel, oh wait, they'd run on the capacitor. Umm waht about warp drive? Oh yeah, capacitor. How would you get fuel in the pod? And how about having limited camera drones too?
Umm... no
