Hello-
I fitting an auto-targeting module on my ship and I'm trying to figure out how it works. When I activate it, it only wants to target things like derelict shipyards and other useless stuff, instead of the actual ships I'd like to engage. Is there some other way this is supposed to be used?
Thanks.

the ATS has only one purpose.. to garauntee that you cannot target anything that is actually hostile towards you till long after your tank has been broken.
The general concensus around here is that a matari came up with the idea.
In theory? Great idea.. In practice? .. a tractor beam serves a better purpose in combat than this thing. ---

Auto-targeting mod is total crap, unfortunately. Probably the only good thing is does it add +2 to your ships' max targetting amount. Every ship has a maximum amount of targets it can lock and the auto-targeting mod adds +2 no matter whether its actually activated. However, this does not affect how many targets you can lock based on your skills, so you would still need to train your targeting skills high enough to even be able to utilize that increased amount. Usually the only people who would care about this are mission runners who have to fight like 30 NPC's at the same time, and then they would have to have an empty high slot that they literally had nothing better to do with.
My understanding through my own experimentation is that you have to click the target on your overview to start the targeting. This seems pretty useless because you can just do ctrl+click to target things in your overview anyways, so it just saves you from holding down the ctrl button. It's also annoying because it doesn't show that targeting timer.

Actually this module is broken. At least in my understanding. in his description say: "Targets any hostile ship within range on activation. Grants a +2 bonus to max targets when online" and all it does is target some inofensive crap instead of "hostile ship".
This one need some look from a dev for sure.

Their is an option in the control panel that is displayed after hitting escape that allows your ship to auto target multiple ships that target you. this is a good feature.

Thanks for the advice. I'll try that instead and try to sell the auto targeter.

a good feature if you want to get blown up by Concord. What happens is that your ship will autotarget anyone, up to the number that you specify, that targets you. While this is good while on a PvE mission, it can get you blown up while traveling through gates. If someone comes along and targets you at the same time you use the shortcut for your afterburner (alt+F1) and the game doesn't register your alt key (it does happen occassionally) then your high slot that is located on F1 will activate. This is usually a weapon so Concord and the Sentry Guns will make short work of your ship. Believe me, it happens...
