I was wanting some opinions on a few things, so here goes. I can currently fly Ishtar, but I can only use ogre 2s ( was thinking of getting some kinetic 2s to toss in with the ogre 2s) What are a few good setups for this ship. Also I was thinking about training for the Vagabond being I already have good gunnery skills. Is it worth it to be able to fly the Vagabond or is the Ishtar just the I win button to HACs? Post some setups for Vagabond aswell please. Also how are the HAC's going to fair in the Kali patch? Thanks for your time.

Ogre II deal the best dps for all heavy drones so you might want to use them. And Ishtar > Vagabond imo :)

Don't bother with Wasps II... Berserkers (explosive) and Ogres are the ones you should prioritize for. Then if you really must have the other two, go ahead and train for them. --- High quality pics of ALL EVE ships!

Maybe Ishtar with webber drones to slow down the vaga and then aproach it and use its dual web to switch to ogres.

The Ishtar and Vagabond are probably top of the HACs when it comes to PVP. However, one isn't better than the other - the Ishtar can't kill a good Vagabond pilot, and the Vagabond can't kill a good Ishtar pilot. The impending ECM and WCS stab nerf skews it in favour of the Vagabond as it can sit outside nos and web range while shooting the Ishtar and not worry about getting jammed (so much), where-as the Ishtar can only put a couple of points on the Vaga and watch in vein as it MWDs away when the fight doesn't go his way.
Until then however, you have the Ishtar which is a superb anti-everything ship, and the Vagabond which is the best skirmish ship in game. It goes fast, moves fast and does good DPS. The sacrifice is that it isn't as versatile as an Ishtar.

ishtar can be used a lot like a vaga just for fun, its pretty effective too
3x 150mm t2. 2x medium nosf 2x large extenders, EM hard, 20km, MWD 3x nano, 2x WCS
as for normal ishtar, there is no point in using it over a domi

Vs. Vagabond orbiting @ about 15KM+ I would use sentry drones.
Never used em however so I wouldnt know if they can track a vagabond with or without MWD on.

Sentry drones track like long range BS guns, so they will miss anything orbiting at 15 unless you web the bejesus out of it.

have had many a test my ishtar vrs vaga and i can say that it is very very boring.
I could tank the vage with ease and the vaga could pop my drones about as fast as i could launch them and even with him not killing my drones due to the speed of the vaga my drones could not keep up with him and could not get full dmg onto the vaga. he was staying at 30% shield remaining.
this was a test with 2 specced out characters in they ships both with hac 5 over 10mill sp in guns and 7mill sp in drones each

I wasn't really implying ishtar vs vagabond, it was more or less the pros and cons of these two ships. If I can already pilot the ishtar is it worth it to train for the vagabond.....what uses does it have that the isthar doesn't. Sorry for the confusion.

Well, an Ishtar is quite scary in controlled environment.
Ie, if you happen to stumble on something you can be fairly certain you can engage it and win with a generic nos/drone/ecm/plate setup. It's kinda tough to fit with about no powergrid and similar cpu, but if you emphasize on the drones you're good.
It also doesn't care about opponent size which is something very few ships can do.
On the flipside, Ishtar has trouble chasing stuff and actually finding something to engage. Sure, MWD is mandatory, but it's superslow and not too agile for a cruiser. It's also kinda pointless in bigger (5+ engagements) since it's drones are slow to engage and targets will usually be dead before your drones arrive. It does make for good bait tho.
Vagabond, on the other hand, is playing Eve in godmode. While it can kill less ships than an Ishtar can, it can always try. Engaging with an Ishtar is comitting to the fight, as it is with any closerange/drone (gallente) ship. If you stumble into a trap or specific countersetup, you're screwed.
A Vagabond on the other hand, can just hit the MWD and zip away at 4km/sec (or, in worst case, about 700 m/s when webbed with a named webber). Sure, it has a weaker tank (which is made up for with speed) and slightly lower damage.
Then to top it off, a Vagabond can rip the only thing that can catch him (interceptor) apart in about 5 seconds AND has spare slots for a set of stabs "just in case". Note that the so-called WCS "nerf" is not gonna hurt her much too; so now my lock takes 6 seconds instead of 3. Big fecking deal.
I've seen people in vagabonds engage multiple HAC's with inty support, kill an Interceptor and make it to safety. And those people that got killed were not newbies. The only way to kill a Vagabond is to complete overgank it and make sure you have 3 points and 2 webbers on it before it can even twitch.
So all in all, get a Vagabond; Ishtar is way overrated.

Ishtar is the I WIN button.
Couple things to consider
NOS + EWAR + DRONES = Win.
You want a MWD to get in range for the tackle and for avoiding gate camps, and... basically every PVP ship need a MWD.
Build a solid tank. Nothing less than a 800 plate will do. I'd suggest the 1600.
Ishtar can't kill a Vaga. It can only send him running away (unless you're expecting to deal with one and you 2x web 'em). BUT a Vaga most certainly won't kill an Ishtar. I've solo'd Command Ships in my Ishtar. :)
For fast moving gangs, go with the Deimos. "WTF?!?! Why not the Vagabond?!?!"****abonds do OK damage and get in and out very quickly, but when you're with a small gang (unless they're all in vaga's/interceptors as well) you want that glorious Deimos damage. ___________

Ishtar can tank like mad. Deal massive dps. And yeah, take out any bs that it sets its heart on.
Vagabond is a ship for annoying people. Or as use for a heavy tackler in gangs. Cant really solo any ship larger than a t1 cruiser. So yeah.
Ishtar > Vagabond.
Although vagabond has the extreme ability to pick its own fights.

Ishtar can tank good, yes.
However, it cannot tank "like mad" and also use an MWD and "omgpwn" a BS. Yes, it can do each this seperately, but not all at the same time. To "tank like mad" it requires a Cap booster/plate which rules out medium Nos etc, unless you want to cripple your medslot layout with all kinda of cap rechargers, or cripple your maneuverability by taking out the MWD.
It can be fast and find targets, but does so at the price of its tanking ability; it can kill most generic battleships, but will lose to today's standard issue close range battleships that have Nos all over the place. And killing a ranged BS is not really a challenge in even a tech 1 cruiser.
Fitting an Ishtar is all about making compromises and that's it's weakness, but also it's strength. It's super versatile, but limited both cpu- and powergrid wise. It's not a bad ship; on the contrary, it's extremely good, but not half the ship some posts above are suggesting, simply because "Med Nos, MWD, EW and Heavy Tank" are never ever going to fit.
The most common "generic" setup has Small blasters, small Nos in hislots, has MWD and disruptor, web, cap booster and an ECM Multi in the mids and has dual small rep (grid problems), a 1600mm plate and named hardners (cpu issues) in the lows. I've flown some 800mm / medrep setups but that's even more demanding on the cpu (read: no ECM) and the freed up slot didn't make up for the loss of armor and the ECM.
Good luck finding a workable Medium Blaster setup. I have one, but the small blaster version so totally outperforms it...

Edited by: Jouno on 30/10/2006 20:40:23 I fly them both quite alot, I love them both altho the vagabond is alot of fun for solo play and attacking multiple targets , and ishtar for anything else really.
The vagabond can dishout alot of dmg with the right skills and it can evade any gatecamp with a bit of luck. The nanoishtar is very cool for solo also but it tends to be a problem taking on multiple targets at once or if your drones get shot at.

Vaga are losing their WCS induced invulnerability in kali. You wont need 3 dedicated tacklers to hold one down anymore.

Smart vaga pilots dont need stabs to escape from tacklers. Vaga will still be the best solo ship, altho ccp is killing solo play with all these changes in kali and im not talking about the stab nerf
