Yes i know theres that irritating tutorial, but how about a downloadable mannual for eve.
This way if people need to know something, like how to create their first ever Eve charactor perhaps, or more about instas, bookmarks, mission running, ship set ups and the 1000 other things, instead of having to trawl through stickies scattered about all over the place, they could use the Eve Mannual.
It could be updated to reflect content and patch changes, surely it wouldnt put CCCP resources to breaking point, indeed Eves albeit very small user base is clearly very committed to the game and im sure players wouldnt mind mucking in and helping if it game to that, or perhaps even just hire somebody on a temp basis to make a Mannual that could be updated.
This is the first online game that ive EVER played that doesnt have an online or paper print for that matter mannual, im damn sure alot of people including myself could get alot more out of the game if they made one.

Is this definately confirmed, just over the past four years or so ive played various mmorpgs from SWG to good ole WoW and for some reason all of them had game mannuals, with quick start sections and more comprehensive game guides, plus additonal play guides etc that were presented neatly in various prints - and they sold these making money!
Its just Eve is by far the most complicated mmorpg ive played so far, with a very steep learning curve and i think these two factors are exerbated considereably by the fact there isnt a damn game mannaul available, quite bizarre going off the assumption cccp genuinely want to attract and retain new players to this game.

There is that, but it is somewhat dated and lacks a lot of details. However, most of information is good and useful. You should read it at least 3 times.
However, it hasn't been updated in at least 18 months. There have been huge changes since then. ______________________________________________________ I forget which station container has my memory implants. |

Thanks though if thats best they can do im very disappointed, i simply cant understand why playing guides/mannuals arent a priority for Eve, or perhaps CCCP genuinely arent wanting to retain new players to the game? Its certainly an incredibly poor marketing method, selling somebody a product then not letting them know how to get the most out of it?

If you're new, hang out in Rookie Help channel for the first 30 days, then come to the help channel. There are lots of people in game who have taken up the slack, and stay in the help channel to help new players and old players alike. If you have a specific question, about a more obscure part of the game, there's possibly a channel set up for it.
CEO Channel for corp help and pos funtime channel for player owned stations, both come to mind.
So until they do get a manual, come to the HELP channel!!

What would such a manual include? What do you need to know that a manual could tell you that couldn't be gleaned from item descriptions, the Market or the existing game guide? How to logoffski? Jetcan mining? Rat spawn chaining? The things we learn as we play EvE are metagame tactics, borderline exploits and routines for taking advantage of the weaknesses in the system. An official manual from CCP would have to acknowledge and condone everything it explains.
If they skip over the information that they wish they could ignore (should the manual teach every newbie how to amass insta bookmarks?) then they're selling their customers short, and if they include it they're shooting themselves in the foot.
At this late date in its life cycle, EvE caters almost exclusively to veteran players. Content additions, skill requirements and the sophisticated rules of "high security" space all serve to make EvE extremely inhospitable to new members of the community.
The steep learning curve is a good culling system. If you can't get comfortable with the game controls without someone holding your hand, you'll have an aneurysm when you find out what a solo Pilgrim pilot or sniper can get away with in a 0.4 system. Let them quit because the game's too hard, not because it kicked them in the nuts for trying to play it. -------------- Civis Ascendant Sum |

This is kind of a poor attitude though - we want more players in EVE.
I think the most crucial thing which needs to change though is the tutorial. If we could get it to stress the danger of low-sec, that in high-sec you can be ganked, etc. then I think we'd have a lot fewer irritated newbies.

The thing is, if they ever do bring out a manual, whether it be in paper or pdf form, CCP will aways need to be updating it, along with updates on the server and website. Why would we want to drag them away from the good jobs they do keeping the server running, applying hotfixes or even developing Kali just to work on a manual? The majority of the information you need can be found right on this website, just take a look a the item database?

At the end of the day i dont see how spending a few hours if that to update new and important content for new players is going to break the bank, surely a quick start guide at the least is required for a game of this complexity - indeed a couple of months on im finding eve isnt actually all that complicted, just for me it has being because theres no **** offical playing guides!

Its simply too much to learn, i simply fail to understand whys it such a struggle for them bring out a quick reference/play guide instead of having to use a maelstrom of messy forums links and out dated infromation?

The most important step in helping others is fulfilling a need. You've established a need, now how do YOU fulfill it?
That's right. Asking CCP to do it is part of the problem. Not that the guide shouldn't be there, just that it can just as easily be developed by a group of players vice a group of developers.
Here's some resources for you to Google.
Eve Wiki Grismar's Wiki Eve-University (go to the 'Eve University' channel)
There's a MILLION others, not just the forums. Then there's the in-game tutorial, and the website mini-tutorial.
The info is there, you just have to be proactive in finding it.

The ingame tutorials little more than a guide as to how to use the interface as opposed as to being a game guide, I agree theres a million others which is why perhaps having one offical guide updated every few months for new and old alike, made either by a players group as u suggested or CCCP.......after all its their game and im sure this is only mmorpg ive played without any offical guides, is surely the way ahead :)
