Dear community,
I would like advice from the "collective" on which ship, and its corresponding setup, is the best for PvE. I play almost entirely solo, so I want a ship that can do missions and ratting with the fewest problems. I am not restricted by skills or racial requirements; I can run my current setup until I am able to fly whatever is recommended. Thanks in advance.
Best regards,

I like the Absolution for lvl4 missions. it can solo them without too much trouble. I guess it's good for the belt ratting too.

Edited by: Jinx Barker on 01/11/2006 01:04:45 You did ask for 'best' - remember that.
1x Cerberus 5x HML T2 1x DB/TS/Corpum Medium Nossie 1x Domination 10mn AB Apropriate Gist-X Hardener(s) (EM, Therm, Kin, Expl): depends on the faction you are killing 1x Large Gist-X SB 2x DG BCU (if you dont use DG you will have some issues fitting Nossies and Hardeners) 2x TS/DB PDS
***Edit: The above will be very expensive. However, it will kill any NPC. I have flown CNR, Rattlesnake and after I got to Cerberus I sold my CNR and my Rattler - I had no problem tanking Estamel Spawn with the above setup. Also, the 2 Mill and 5 Mill dual spawn Gurista Battleships died just as easy.
Very expensive to buy, very shocking to loose, but you did ask for the 'best.'

It depends what you mean by best. Best PvE ability for the least amount of ISK, or just pure rat ownage regardless of ISK.

for anything not doing EM damage the Ferox is the best mission runner per isk up to level 3 missions. for level 4s the raven does extremely well.
post Kali though Drake will replace the Ferox as the premire mission runner as it can poke some into raven territory and do 4s.

CNR is the best ship i have found for missions.
7 T2 cruise 1 heavy dim nos
1 xl- gisti b-type sb 4 gisti b-type or dread guristas mix of hardeners 1 gisti b-type shield boost amp
2 ts PDS 3 ballistic controls T2
Gets through missions fairly quick.

Thank you for the replies so far. ISK is not a major concern, as this will probably be my most-used ship. The best value would be nice, but I want a ship that can do all the existing level 4 missions with the least amount of worry. I'm not planning on flying this ship tomorrow, but to build it piecemeal so the best components (stat-wise) are what I am looking for. |

I think you'll find Eve is not like other MMOs where there is one single way to set up that's altogether better than any other. If that were true, it would be overpowered and would be rebalanced.

Best pve ship would be Absolution:
6 t2 heavy beams 1 dimi medium nosf
1 t2 ab 1 fleet web 1 t2 cap recharger
1 t2 medium armor repairer 3 t2 adaptive plate 2 t2 heatsinks 1 cpr
No need to use any ammo, deal great damage, tank great for everything pretty much. With the new BC boost, it will be even better. Simply cannot find another ship that can do pve better than it. Takes a while to train but it is great. Does lvl 4 angel extravaganza under 50 minutes. You can keep on killing in astroid belts until you fall into sleep.

Yes, I understand that, which is why I am asking for an opinion on a specific topic. I want a ship that does one thing well - battle NPCs in missions, with a minor ratting role. I'm also looking to diversify my skills, and I figure this will give me some incentive.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll check it out. Being able to use an Amarrian ship would certainly save me some training time. |

Ravens are what you want. drones kill small stuff, so use torps instead of cruise. use 1 large extender, and fit the hardeners that go well with the rats you are killing. low slots are for pdu's and bcu's.

Edited by: Cloudis on 01/11/2006 22:31:34 Zealot are very nice for 0.0 ratting, no ammo needed, easy to move around and avoid blobs. The dps are alright and with HAC lvl4 and medium pulse spec lvl4 you kill off spawns rather fast.
4*heavy pulse II 1*medium nos II
1*10nm ab II 1*cap recharge II 1*x5 or fleet web
1*medium armor rep II 1*EANM II 2*active hardners, damage typ depends on witch rats you killin 2*heat sink II 1*cpr

Edited by: Taipan Gedscho on 02/11/2006 12:01:19 id go for a dominix, since you dont require ammo. unless you loose a drone, which shouldnt happen.
youll need to learn how to work the so-called drone-aggro bugs tho.
for angel extravaganza lvl4, first pocket, for example youll need a no-drone approach to get rid of one or two webbers, so you can gain ground, before you release your nasty little friends.
in the long run a domi is a very economic approach, plus if you use it for ratting you can stay deployed for a very long time before you need to restock on supplies.

would people STFU about Cerberus Cerberus, wait for a drake its awesome an cheaper, let the Cerberus cool down for pvp , its not meant for ratting FFS.

Raven. There's simply nothing better that's the best bang for your buck than a Raven. With foreknowledge of level 4's, and changing your hardeners, along with bringing the right ammo, you shouldn't die in any level 4 mission. Well, MAYBE In the midst of deadspace... but that's just because it's mostly EM damage. I tend to avoid that, as it's not really worth the effort needed.
Raven is cheap. Flexible. Fully insurable. Should have no problems with level 4's once you get used to them.
Did I mention it's cheap?
6x cruise launcher II 1x nos 1x tractor bean 1x XL dread gurista SB 1x Domination amplifier 4x specific T2 hardners 2x BCU II 3x PDU II
It's a tight fit for CPU, I have electronics 5 and weapon upgrades 5 with 821/825 cpu used. But I have no problems for missions. Keep 3 invlns, 2 em, 2 kin, 2 therm and 1 exp hardeners in your hangar, swap them as needed.
The SB is spendy, but well worth it.
