Edited by: Quintus Sertorius on 01/11/2006 07:51:12 Edited by: Quintus Sertorius on 01/11/2006 07:43:57 Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but it seems that a portion of the west coast is unable to connect to eve after the last series of disconnects. Checking with people from other alliances and through voicecoms, it appears that these players receive a notice that the server is down, while the rest of us log in fine.
Anyone else experiencing this or have advice I can give them?

It looks like a network issue, as I can't connect through comcast any longer. Through another ISP, it's fine though.

So that explains why Rens dropped from 100 people to 5 in a matter of minutes earlier. I did suspect...

No North Americans?
I wondered why there was no lag.
OOOOOOOOO wait a moment...
Lag = Evil, North Americans cause lag, therefore North Americans are EVIL.

Actually, that should be: Lag = Evil North Americans cause lag therefore, North Americans cause Evil

Same thing from Jap too. Had to use some very nasty tunneling tricks to be able to change my 15 minute skill to a longer patch-day skill.
Can't reach the forums too without tunneling traffic thru Europe.
CCP said that they'll be getting some more redundant capacity. I bet the just said their old provider to sod off aearlier nd the old provider cut the BGP session from them a bit early :)
Dunno if CCP has their own AS. Multi-homed solution would be nice for this kind of service. Maybe they'll have after this day (I'm available for these kind of network engineering jobs, done it before, negotiated with RIPE etc...). -- br, Blo |

Not sure about the server, but it was pretty hard to access the forums from Easter Europe.

As far as I can tell, Level3 (backbone) was completely down again (yet another failure after the one from 10-21-06)
Of course, there went my "set a long skill for the DT" as I wasnt able to connect to change the skill before i had to go to work
:(((
24-? hours wasted

Wow, so that's what it was? I was afraid that someone at CCP pulled the plug early! I was afk and training a skill that was going to finish before the downtime - come back and I lost my connection! It just came back now at 4:30EST and luckily my skill ended just a few minutes before that & I was able to get in to set a long skill.
Spent a while searching on The Google for what happened but couldn't find anything. ****ed Internets!

Ah common guys - you KNOW the 1 day that CCP say they are going to rework the path to the servers and everyone mysteriously losing connection to the servers hours early is just a coincidence right...right?

One of our ISP providers into the server is having connection issues, thus resulting in loss of connectivity for a number of our users. One of the things we are adding with this hardware update is multi-homing. This will hopefully prevent future occurances of this nature.

Unfortunately the skill I was training finished at 06:36 this morning while there was no access to the servers, so due to the extended downtime and the fact I can't get into Eve from work means I am going to lose 36 hours of training unless a nice GM or Dev can set me training Amarr Drone Specialization lvl 5 please

@Kieron: Are you "in the know" whether this new ISP will be affiliated with level3 in anyway ?
Problem I see is that they are "problematic". We had a several hour failure ten days ago (and this hurts when it is on a big backbone). Additionally they are known to switch off routing if they see it fit (like they did with one ISP when they wanted it to pay its transit fees or disagreed with some content another ISP was hosting).
So all in all, my trust in this company as internetbackbone isnt the biggest one. You may google a bit to find newsbits

Limelight, the company that has been handling out patch hosting and other services, is the ISP we are adding.

I'll second that - I used to work for a big hosting company and we'd randomly have level3 just die on us. We had some other routes, but it was only ever level3 that seemed to have outages that would extend in to the 30min-1hr range easily.
This one was at least 3hrs though - that's pretty rough. I'd love to hear their excuse:P

And I think many of us are in the situation that we have/had "Skill Training Complete" during the net-blackout and now sit at work unable to login and change skill anymore. *sigh*
BTW: to grasp the dimension: quote: "The worldÆs largest telecom carriers all continue to use Level 3 services, as do the 10 largest U.S. Internet Service Providers, and the 10 largest European telecom carriers." (from wiki)
There is about 80%-90% chance for continental US on dial-up of all sorts to go through level3 and much of Europe too.
