Edited by: Yumoen Crisam on 02/11/2006 17:49:44 I wasn't sure where to put this, but I figured this would be the most relevant forum.
I'm thinking about going for a 7 Med 1 Small T2 Drone setup in an Arbi for a cheap PVP ship. I can't fly Pilgrims yet, freaking Amarr Cruiser V takes 35 days and EVE Mon says 61d total to get a Pilgrim. Idk, Drone Interfacing 5 is going to take 25d too.
What I'm wondering is, how effective are drones in PVP Combat? Would time be worth it to train to use 8 Drones in an Arbi? I can almost fly T2 drones, before the weekend comes I will be equiped with them. Drone Interfacing is only lvl 4 though.

They are quite effective. Depending on situation, with drone interfacing 4 you could take on BC's in that Arbitrator.

Drones are one of the most effective PvP weapons, as they don't require cap, can (kinda) do all damage types, can fight while you are jammed and still put out decent DPS.
The Arbi is a very good ship. It lacks the Mallers tank but makes up for it with drone pwnage and an extra med slot (god bless the Harbi with 4 as well btw). Personally I killed a Zealot 1 on 1 with one (Yes it was PvP set up) which, while a lucky kill, at least shows the potential of the thing
So yup, very much worth it.
As for what drone config to use. Well 2 heavy, 2 med and 1 light will maximize DPS but you don't get spares and having all three types can seem kinda. . . messy. Also the heavies will have a little trouble against an unwebbed/unpainted frig/inty. So it's down to personal choice. If you can use T2 meds but not Heavies then I'd go with the 7/1 config. - - - - - - - - - -

Dude, dont bother training Drone Interfacing V before youre completely sure about drones. And you are not, hence you ask questions like "how effective are drones in PvP". Screw around with your arbi, get those t2 drone skills, train combat drone int to 4-5 as you feel. Train other skills like drone navigation, sharpshooting and durabillity, try that and that...
About the drone setup layout, i'd go for 5 medium and 5 small. ---

The tactic I was planning on using was to MWD to min orbit range and kinda just jam them and try to stay under their guns while my drones pound the living X out of them. I know cruisers aren't as maneuverable as frigates, but it should help a little.
Also, I figured that the 7/1 setup would increase my damage through the ranges and I don't really know how to figure dps, but the total damage is 91.5 with 7/1 compared to 79.5 with the 2/2/1.
