Ok I opened fire on some rats at a gate with widowmaker missiles. They ended up flying behind the stargate and I did splash damage to the stargate. Then I am raped by the damn sentry guns all cuz of a simple mistake.
I would like to see sentry guns NOT attack you if you are engaging anyone, sick of this bs of a game.

You willingly fired missiles, of which you *knew* would explode, around a Stargate.
Stupidity rewards the otherwise bored Sentry guns.

How far away do you have to be from sentry guns to be safe from them shooting at you for any reason?

According to some Polaris chap/chapette, i forget which .. there are three tech levels of sentry gun in the game. Tech 1 covers 45km-ish, tech 2 covers 55km or 65km, and tech 3 covers 100km. The 100km figure is the only one I remember accurately.
This answer was provided by them in the help channel. Take its accuracy in as much faith as you do any other info provided by Polaris, be that much or little.
