When installing the patch my virus scanner wnet off as well - AVAST for the record. On the RedistD3DXOnly.exe executable. So I cannot or in fact will not run that to fix the client. Anyone have a link to one from microsoft that will fix the problem that is virus free?
I am sorry CCP I love you guys and all, but just because you give me a file does not mean I will install it if the virus scanner says its infected.

Not sure if this is anything to do with DX, but I managed to log in, but as soon as it loaded me into space I'm got the error message: - This application has failed to start because MSVCP71.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem. Any way to fix this problem up?
Just to clarify, it hasn't stopped me getting ingame. Everything seems to be working normally. ___________

you can get the missing file here http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?msvcp71
copy it to system32 folder in your windows directory.

The file that is missing off your hard drive that your talking about is deleted by CCP in the recent patch that you installed. I know this because I search their install program and found where it deletes it. Matter of fact it deletes it twice. File name is MSVCR71.dll.
By deleting this file they make things that run in the background of the computer not run.
So blame CCP for doing that.

make that a few more. i started a thread here thinking it was a vista problem, but apparently it's not. and some people don't even have this problem when running vista. i'm really confused over this.
disabling DEP (Data Excecution Prevention) does not help.

*joins the queue for cluching at straws* I'm getting the same error message as the Op, D3Dx etc. Sadly I don't know what a Bin directory is, neither do I posses the arcane knowledge to work dos. Are there any answers to this problem yet, something in the laytounge preferably.

I have same problems with my backup PC and Kali
CPU: AMD Athlon XP 2100+ 512 Mb Ram ATI Radeon 9500, 256 Mb Latest DirectX, full install
Eve crashes every time I try to log in, sometimes I reach the loading station and such.
I have no problems running 2 accounts in window mode on this PC, seems to be a major bug somewhere in Kali.

Here its working well with Win-XP-SP2, all current hotfixes, AMD64 + ATI X800GTO (Catalyst 05.8).
Try creating a BR including a logserver-log and dxdiag file, as frequently requested by the devs when there were similar problems.

Edited by: Alihahd on 10/11/2006 20:26:57 Hi,
Having the same issue on Windows 2K3 Server (yes, I know it's not support etc.) but the error related to Data Execution Prevention. I turned off DEP for the CCP Blue Framework when I received the error. No error noted on my next restart. My first run of the new build ended in a CTD sitting in the hanger as it was loading my "Items". I have a couple of event log items if they will help.

Now heres an interesting item, "This application has failed to start because MSVCP71.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem." Seems to be linked to the voice system, and i was finaly able to solve the problem by reinstalling acrobat reader (Which also uses MSVCP71.dll)

Current Setup:
Windows Vista Build 5600 Alienware m5500 15.4" 1920*1200 Intel Pentium M 1.8GHz Geforce Go 6600 w/256MB 1GB Memory Audigy 2 ZS Notebook Lastest Beta NVIDIA drivers from laptopvideo2go.com
I had the same problem that most of you are having. After starting up the client, I would see the splash screen and then it would just exit without ever getting to the login screen. I then installed my audigy notebook card and viola! it worked. For me it was definately a sound issue. I thought that maybe vista didn't have proper drivers for my onboard sound card. I installed the official beta drivers for my onboard sound and still nothing. I have to have my pcmcia card in there for it to work.
My new problem is that about every other time I exit eve and shut down, when I start back up eve says that the client is corrupt and that I need to reinstall. I've reinstalled eve roughly 10 times in a 5 day period now. I can't figure out what is causing the data corruption. Possibly something in Vista?
Hope this helps.

The patch has a virus two times i installed it, two times my pc was messed up first time avast files where deleted second time, audio drivers and video DX drivers where deleted
The virus is only detectable by AVAST as it seems CCP do something ASAP!

Unstickied - we've changed the way we include the DirectX redistribution, you should get no virus warnings from Avast. Vista support is still flaky, it's being worked on.

Originally by: Philippe Alumeres Strange 'error' here. I start EvE, get the new (nice looking) splash screen and then nothing and it closes again. Windows does not show any error messages and the logserv.exe does not either (only info messages about starting up). I ran the RedistD3DXOnly.exe, both, from cmd line and from within the explorer.
Does anyone have a hint, what to look for or even one to solve this?
Thanks in advance.
BR - Phil
i get this at the "Entering Character Selection..." page. And then the game just quits. Tried with brand new client installation. Doesn't help.
