So, there's no good way to start these things is there? Pardon me, might I have some of your money please? I'll give it back. Cross my heart.
Who are you??
Gosh, we just meet one another and you start off with such a deep philosophical question. Who am I? Can I really know who I am? Can any of us know who we are? I'll have to do some serious pondering of that. I can tell you some simple stuff though.
I started playing Eve sometime in 2007 or around there and did the sort of normal drifting in and out of the game for a year and a half or so, mainly mission-running, mining, small corp stuff. I lost interest and quit (I think my laptops inability run the premium graphics very well played its part).
I got the itch to start anew sometime this summer and have been playing steadily since. I've sort of settled in to light mission-running and trading at Amarr. I have a RL friend who also plays which certainly helps one not lose interest but I know that the best way to get the most of this game is to become active in the community which is something I didn't do the first time around and that was definitely a mistake. This bond is a part of that.
What is this bond for?
Of course the fundamental purpose of this and every other bond is to make money but my motivations are a bit more complicated. This is a part of injecting myself into the community. Trading is something I do enjoy and I feel that I'm marginally successful at and I think that running a bond is something that might be enjoyable. I don't know for sure however, maybe I won't like it or maybe I'll find I'm not very good at it so this bond is going to be small and over a short time frame. This is sort of a dry run for me to see how these things work and whether or not they're something I want to make a part of my Eve experience.
What is the plan?
Smash and grab. There are two guards on watch and we know their rounds. When the first one takes his normal stop at the restroom you'll distract the other one by pretending to be lost and in need of the phone. Show a little cleavage if necessary. I'll use "the device" to bypass the electronic locks and get the item replacing it with an exact replica that we got from fortune teller. It's important that.....wait. Sorry, that's something else.
Right, the money thing. My operations are simple. Basic hub arbitrage trading finding price differences between buy and sell orders in station and playing the 0.01 ISK game. I try to stay away from things like ammo and minerals that require moving large volumes because it takes so long and there's the chance prices might shift leaving you with lots of product at a price that's no longer profitable. I mainly deal in ships and weapons though occasionally things like implants and blueprints if I see an opportunity. Almost everything is in station, I never use contracts and only rarely do I any sort of hauling. When I do it's always within one or two jumps and just to capitalize on something special but I do keep a Badger Mk. II just in case.
So, in a nutshell, buy low and sell high. I don't do anything fancy.
Risks
As always, the greatest risk is that I'll simply take the money. This is my first offering so I don't have former clients to vouch for me. I could point out that the small size of this bond probably means that should I be a scammer I'm probably planning on playing a slightly longer game than this so you can be reasonably sure that my first bond will be paid back so that I can. ;) I'm sure I'll regret saying that if I turn out to enjoy this and somebody looks back at that a few bonds from now.
As I mentioned this is sort of an experiment or a test. My assets are sufficient that should things go poorly in regards to the trading I will still be able to afford to may a full repayment to investors and I will know that I'm not cutout for this sort of thing.
Terms
Total fund - 100 million ISK Minimum investment - 5 million ISK Maximum investment - 10 million ISK Interest - 10% End date - December 9th
Explanation of Terms
As I've said, this is somewhat of a practice and the terms are designed to give me the most informative experience. The min/max investment is to make sure that I have a moderately sized number of investors. I don't need this to be large or to last very long in order to get an idea of what this is like. I think that 10% is a fair interest rate taking into account the factor of risk associated with a first time bond.
Conclusion
I hope I've addressed all the normal stuff. I'm sure that I've forgotten things. I'll do my best to answer any questions or concerns. Thank you for reading everything (I won't tell anybody you skimmed) and putting up with my lame attempts at humor.

Well, as I said, the purpose of this is primarily educational and the amount is small enough that should something go wrong I could cover any losses to make sure all investors recover their principle and the interest as promised. So provided you trust me then there is collateral, yes. If you don't trust me then I suppose no. I had not anticipated that collateral would be necessary for such small investments. That was a lesson I was going to deal with later should I choose to continue this experiment with bond offerings.
Something could probably be arranged but I think I'd rather avoid the hassle. If it proves essential to the success of the offering and provided I had access to a trusted third party I could use items and/or ISK equivalent to 110 million ISK as collateral. |

May I be the first to welcome you to the community.
Edit: Is there a reason you didn't keep your old character?
Edited for content.
Yes, I had already done the bond scam with the character so I needed a new one for this scam.
I'M KIDDING. THAT WAS A JOKE.
My mouth is probably going to get me in trouble eventually though. Yes, since I was pretty sure I wasn't coming back (even though the rule of Eve is that they all always come back) I passed my character on to a corpmate. I don't mind the fresh start besides the daunting task of training Battleship V all over again.

Thank you kind stranger.

Mr. North, I cannot have a sponsor of an illegal war that did not pay for his crimes as one of my investors. Just joshin', of course I can. This particular Monday is going to be pretty busy so if I don't catch you ingame I apologize (I have two papers and a three hour night class). I'll send you a message though and try to be as timely as possible.
I'd like to just say again how wonderful you've all been and how much I appreciate it. |

Well, actually only 80 million now that you've blown the lid on the whole thing. How did you uncover my devious plot to abscond with 100 million ISK in what I can only imagine is the biggest heist in the history of New Eden. |

Well, it's Friday and the bond has come to a close. I have just finished sending everybody their repayment and I'd like to thank you all for having given me this opportunity. It went well I think and I'm quite certain I'll be pursing this as an activity in the game. The hurdle that I think will be the hardest to overcome is dealing with scaling. Making at least a ten percent profit on a hundred million is child's play but I am aware that starting around a billion or more there's a great deal more effort required for similar returns. If it ends up being something I want to pursue I plan on easing myself into it.
Probably there will be another bond in the future, perhaps 500 million over a slightly longer time frame and perhaps a slightly lower interest rate. I am already considering that it might be necessary to have an audit performed so that my trading activity can be independently verified and how to go about that is something I'm thinking about. Next week is finals week and that next week I'll be going on a trip with some friends for five days or so and then we're at Christmas so I can't know for sure how much time I'll have to be actively trading. The next bond will likely take place after the 25th or perhaps in the beginning of January, I'll just have to see how RL treats me.
Again, I'd like to thank everybody that invested or gave me advise, it is very greatly appreciated. I hope that this is the first of many ventures. |
