First off my only goal is to raise my faction standing towards Minmatar Republic asap.
Flying for Brutor tribe I have gotten an important mission roughly every 14th to 16th normal mission.
I have heard that it might be faster to raise faction standing by doing COSMOS missions, true or false`?
Thx in advance,

Just so you know, you get Storyline ever 16 missions of a level you do. (Doing 14 lvl 1 missions and then 2 lvl2 missions won't do anything, I believe) -- Amarr scum be pushing gas, Caldari dogs are kissing their ***.
Gallente and Minmatar together stand forever as the holy band. |

You need to run lvl3 and/or lvl4 story line missions. To get there, you first have to reach good standings with a member corp of the minmatar faction, so choose a corp from this page:
http://www.eve-online.com/corporations/f_500002.asp
It's been said that with medium/small corps you raise standings faster than with the big ones. I haven't verified but sounds legit so do it. Then get the "connections" skill to at least lvl 4. This is also to advance your corp standings.
Start working for the best lvl/quality agent you can have access to on that corp. Stick to it till you can access an agent of the next lvl, or one with an improved quality.
During the whole process, stick to the same NPC corp. And also, on lvl 1 and lvl 2 missions, don't even bother to pick up the loot cans. That will only make you loose time. Go straight to the next mission instead. Or have a buddy picking up the loot. Try to use agents who give mostly combat missions, as this will raise your standings faster.

All the above advice is good except for the 'don't pick up the loot from level 1 and 2 missions' part. That may be true in a general sense, but loot drops seem to have a relative randomness to them. My average level 2 mission is dropping about 250-400K per mission. But I have found two arbelent missle launchers (sold for 5.2 million) and several other items that individually sold in the 300-400K range each.
So grab that loot. Make some cash.
Though you said your only goal is to raise standings. If that's the case, yeah, completely ignore the loot. :) Others would be happy to grab it if you let them know where to pick it up!

Actually, I know what you mean by pick the stuff up... I found an Altered Type-D SS Expanded Cargo mod in a loot can in Level 2 Illegal Activity 3/3.

Thx for all the advice, but my only real questino was if the faction standing gain was faster with cosmos, which I have found it is, by miles in fact!
Skills are in place, isk arent an issue but thx anyways for asking
I have stumbled upon a new question though, it seems that after running 3 missions (storyline 1/3 + 2/3 + 3/3) and getting a nifty faction standing gain after the 3rd mission, the cosmos agent wont give me anymore work?
Are the cosmos agents one time wonders or how is it supposed to work`?

you can do COSMOS Agent Missions only once. If you fail them, bad luck ;-)

COSMOS missions will give you huge standing gains fiarly quickly. But the COSMOS missions tend to be more difficult than other missions of thier level. I don't know how old you are and what your skills are, but you'll probably want to to have skills for Tech-II frigates to fly them. You may also pull a hauling mission which would require an indusrtial.
Lastly, be warned not every agent in Minmatar COSMOS works for the republic, there's some caldari and pirate agents scattered in that will lower your republic standing.
