Looking through my skills the other day I noticed I have lv5 mechanic.... I can't for the life of me believe I ever intentionally trained this skill, or even remember training it to lv5!!!!
On the other hand its very useful  , got loads of armor on my ship which will come in handy, is there any way to train a skill without training it? or is this a database f00k up?

if you use items....you will gain a small amount of skill points for using it...
thats all i know :P

My Hull Upgrades skill is over half way to lvl5 as well

my hull upgrades as gone from lvl1 to end of lvl3 all by it self also and my mechanic has gone from lvl1 to lvl4 also on its own.

same thing happened to me, i have never trainined mechanics but the other day i looked the skill lvl was on 4!?

Mechanic Skill goes up very quickly when you use cargo expanders and Hull Upgrades goes up quickly when you use Hull/Armor Repairers.

Can you explain a bit? Is it by the use of armor/hull repairers or by fitting them? And what kind of skill points do you get per 100 activation cycles (roughly, so i can know if its worth it to fit 2 med repairers during mining and keep them activated )

Actually I think that ab¦s have massive effect since I have now mechanic lvl5 and I use repeatedly between 3 and 4 ab¦s running. I also kept replacing overdrives with cargo expanders and vice versa
