Hi guys,
I just started the game yesterday and just got curious as to how I go about the game considering I'm very new and still learning about the game. Currently, I'm doing a mission here and there, the Industry career missions and a little bit of mining, and with this I'm just wondering if there's other stuff I'm able to do and also if there's more to do? I know there is, it's not that I'm complaining about a lack of content here!
I'm just curious and still wanting to learn and understand the game further.
Cheers. |

You can do almost everything in EvE, what would you like to do?

This is my issue though, it's just knowing what there is to do before I decide, I was hoping to know what there is to do, I have read up on stuff, but I get the impression there's more to do than I've read about. |

What interests you about EVE? That might be a better way to look at it.

Did you check out the opportunities for inspiration (I'm not too familiar with this new system)? Also the wiki pages of http://www.eveuniversity.org/ are a good starting point, especially for suitable ship fits.
Also there are plenty of EvE player videos, showing different aspects of the game, look for Jonny Pew's videos for example.

Do you care whether or not you're able to travel anywhere in High Security space without getting accosted by NPC police? If the answer is "yes", I recommend you read up on Faction Standings and Standings Mechanics in general. You'll save yourself a lot of trouble if you have this information in advance. I'm of the opinion that an entire in-game tutorial should be devoted to the subject for all new players. It's absurdly easy to destroy your standings with factions whenever you run Security Missions but it's much more time consuming to fix it after the fact.

Stick with it. I was introduced to EvE several years before I started to play it "for real". I stopped playing it about four days into the trial. Later I wished I had just stuck with it.
The thing about this signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything interesting you're almost done reading it anyway.

to really learn something you kinda just have to roll with it, and IMO it is best to join up with some other players as that makes the learning that much faster. and If you don't like it you can always switch! I've pretty much mainly been interested in combat, and IDLE did missions and pvp back when I first started, we would go run missions and when we got bored we would all jump into t1 frigs and shoot each other. I was also interested in industry so I started an alt trained up mining and manufacturing skills, and then science skills for invention. I still know almost nothing about FW or W space, and I've only been to null a handful of times. so 8 years later I still have a bunch of things to try

Sounds to me like exploration might be a good starting point for you. It's very accessible to a new player, and decent isk if you have a feel for what to focus on. There is a ship called the Astero you could save up for, and take it to low sec for extra risk/reward. I guarantee you, the first time you go your heart will be pumping! Johnny Pew does good YouTube guides on the subject. Welcome to New Eden o7

But you should undock. You should speak to people and if you get your courage up you should really really join a player corporation. This game is tons more fun when you're in a good group. Even if you're the guy who would go out solo to just scan down sites and suchlike.
Also try everything you can. This never stops. There are always new things you may not have known about before. (And being with other players often means you can simply ask around.)
And don't be scared to go into some areas of space. It's entirely possible to join even some of the big Null Sec blocs straight after you've just done the most rudimentary opportunities and missions. Some of them even give you the skill books and give you the skill training plans to help you reach useful ships within even days.
I'd say the most difficult groups to join would be the elite PVP guys (who what a proven track record) and Wormhole Corporations (Where trust is at a premium due to the way POS mechanics work). |

There's generic game play and social interaction.
Mining. Missions. Trading. Exploring. Any form of combat, consensual or not.
But there's more. Way more. The interactive part.
Cruising around, watching local and looking for opportunities.
There's a fight going on. You lock both combatants, wait for one to die, steal the loot and gtfo asap.
You scan down mission runners and steal their loot, or try to bait them into a fight in your ship.
You find a ganker at a gate. Wait for him to kill something, grab the victim's loot and gtfo asap. (got lucky yesterday, made 800mill that way)
You join a corp. If the corp gets wardecced and the CEO is **** and tells you to stay docked instead of teaching you to fight ... you contact the wardeccer and play snitch.
You join a corp and steal their stuff.
You start talking in local and become a local celebrity with something that's not the equivalent of buying friends. Giving away stuff makes no friends.
You start a margin trading scam.
You bait people into joining you on a lowsec roam and then kill them.
You offer people a free ship. All they have to do is surround it in their pods. When they are close enough, you light smartbombs.
You post on the forums a lot and convince all the morons that the person you portrait is in fact the person behind the screen.
You prostitute yourself for ISK.
You create creative art, like sexy pics of avatars, and offer them as wallpapers.
You go to lowsec, let yourself get killed. You contact your killer, ask what happened, tell them you're a noob and they will most likely give you money or offer you to join. Then half a year later you kill one of them in their most expensive ships.
The possibilities are endless. Generic gameplay is not what the game is about. In fact, all those who only play the generic crap drop out after a few months.
The socially interactive part is what makes this game.
I'm Sol ... trust me, I know. ;)

I'm always amazed how infrequently this happens, particularly given how frequently new players express negative sentiments about CEOS who mismanage wars. People like me will happily throw a few hundred million at a newbie to paste in some ragey corp chat or message me when that guy is about to start moving his freighter. |

Rhawon Bolmara wrote:it's just knowing what there is to do before I decide. You don't have to decide. Try a bit of everything. EVE does not lock you into a single "profession" like many other games do.
See if some other dudes in the rookie system want to go mining together or fit up some combat frigates and head out into lowsec (you will die but it will be fun). Talk to the people that kill you and see if you can get some tips. Run some missions or crash someone else's mission with combat probes and take their loot. Go to nullsec and look for data or relic sites. Scan for some combat sites in highsec and try to beat other players to the prize.
Whatever you do, interact with other players. Making friends and enemies is what EVE is all about. Depending on your personality you may have more of one than the other. There is no one right way to play.
Talk, trash talk, offer assistance, ask for tips, shoot at, steal from...go get involved. It would even be amusing to fit a remote repair ship and go crash fights that are happening and repair random people on both sides. One of my good friends in EVE I met because he decloaked a falcon and jammed everyone on the field from both sides of a fight which was annoying at the time but I look back on it fondly.
Most new players are worried about how to make ISK. Yes, this is important, but making friends is more important. (And often your new friends will be happy to give you a financial kickstart if you have a good attitude).
PS - If you are still confused about what is even possible in EVE I do recommend finishing all the career agent missions. Even if you aren't interested in one aspect of EVE you will find that the general knowledge you get from learning the basics is always useful. Also you're likely to find your interests will change over time.

Cheers. EVE is a sandbox, so you are given some tools (pail and a shovel) and then sent off to make your own fun.
Join a corp. It is easier to find and make content with the help of friends.
Examples of rookie-friendly corps * Brave Newbies Inc. (largest corp in EVE, a Reddit corp) * Other BRAVE member corps (see Brave Newbies sidebar for more info) * KarmaFleet (a Reddit division of Goonswarm) * Pandemic Horde (a Reddit division of Pandemic Legion) * EVE University (structured formal training) * Red Federation vs. Blue Republic (learn through exploding - an eternal limited hisec war) There are many more too!
