So there I am, sweeping the belts in a system. I see some yellow cans somebody did not bother to pick up. Since I pick up anything I lock and activate my Tractorbeam.
This can does not belong to you and you are not allowed to take it... or something like that.
Yhis is rediculous! I can fly to it and pick it, but I canot use a Tractor to pick it?!?! Hopefully this will be remedied soon.

Well, it makes sense really, otherwise you'd have some sad fool running around high sec with a Nano-Cyclone (or whatever) with 8x Tractors in the highs, dragging peoples cans all over belts, while the can owner is still there.
....it's great hi-jacking a meme isn't it?

So? It is stealing, you get aggro'ed, fight may ensue. And let's be real: who would do that? What's to stop somebody from doing it now without a beam? Take an AF, do what you suggested, the cruiser attacks you and you flatten it.
Nope, there is no reason to gimp a Tractor like that.

yes there is, a very good one in fact - too many people in games like this are idiots and your proposed change would allow them to grief anyone by tractoring cans around from 20km away

It gets more annoying when you shoot down someone (a PC), and get the same message. Which sounds more of a sideproduct bug rather an intended feature.

If it flagged you in the same way that stealing does, it would be no different than today.
Today:
They steal from your can and you can 'legally' kill them. If you can't actually kill them, you're SOL.
After change:
They tractor your can and you can 'legally' kill them. If you can't actually kill them, you're SOL.

While I understand why some like it this way, it's also slightly ignorant to me.
If they can steal your ship when you leave it out in space, and they can take your can when you leave it out in space, there shouldn't be a d-mn thing stopping you from latching on with a tractor and moving it that way.

Tractoring somebodies can should be doable, but it should bring criminal flagging.
This would put yet another hurt on people jet can mining. Giant Secure Cans when anchored and have a password set can not be stole, scooped, or tractored.

So let's give the Ore theif another weapon to pick on the mining bardge owners.
Your idea is stealing from a can, but at 20kms away.

It is not about criminal flagging. This is pure grief it's about.
Most people who mine don't do anything to those who get flagged, because if they do that means CONCORD won't be there when the thief shoots back. It's just silly, really.
Think of it this way: it's not your can, why do you want to drag it? You want to loot it, then go to it manually. So instead of using a module that was introduced for players convenience, do it the hard way - who said taken stuff that doesn't belong to you should be easy?

I would be happy if they made it so you can tracter any can dropped by any member of your group. In system or not.

God I'd love this. For the exact reason it shouldn't be allowed. I would warp in my slow Bestower, align, tractor in the jetcans and be gone right after pilfering. In and out so much quicker than flying to each can. Also, gives the victim less of a chance in that you can't do enough damage at that range in that short of a time. I'd love that, but thats why it can't happen.
