As some of you know I run a public killboard - podbase.com
Unfortunatly I haven't given it the love it needs and therefor been having thoughts about its future.
For those of you who provide killboards you know that it is not the easiest task to do (at least not if you code it yourself like I did), and the other problem is having people use it (in other words getting the killmails there).
So instead of completly taking podbase offline, I thought of turning it into a killmail database (or killmail hosting per say). Pilots uploads their killmails to podbase, from which killboard owners easily can pull the mails, based upon various options if needed.
As well as it would be a searchable database, but only showing the killmails, not counting points or losses.
But before doing any of this I wanted to see your response, ideas, comments and thoughts.

Podbase IMO is the best looking killboard, but a little buggy ATM in places, nothing serious however I might add.
I think perhaps people would like a little more statistical information.
Perhaps if you ran both ideas in conjunction?

I think Chribba deserves a better response than this, he provides a number
of excellent services to the EVE Community for free and has always had time for me if I asked him a question.

Ive never used pod base but I know at one point it was grabbing mails from our old killboard which I thought was very cool.

I say give it the love itneeds fix it up add soem nice little features also make killmails searchable and you would have the best killboard out there.

Atm is a buggy laggy and does not provide sufficient information about you or your kill record.
Maybe just let it die mate.There is plenty of other killboards out there that do a better job and u have other things to worry about.

i HATE to agree with ginger on... well.. anything. but he is right on some points. ive had quite a few killmails dissappear on me when enetered into podbase (mostly due to people evemailing me killmails when i didnt get the final blow and them not posting mails.) i still post to podbase, but i now crosspost to the PC board.
the killmail DB idea sounds good man, get on to it

I think what will benefit you the most, is a program/script or whatnot that will go through and sync your database with as many known eve-killmail databases as feasible.
You probably have a sufficient data sample with podbase.com already. I would first start by sorting the killmails by pilot name (victim and participant), then searching all other killboards for those names and pull their killmails and add them to your database if they don't already exist. (Don't forget to exclude NPC participants).
To evade the problems with a dynamic database (people adding entries), pick a time frame to use as a base source of data. It would be nice to go back very far, but for example, Huzzah's killboard is nolonger online. So, to make the effect immediate, pick a time frame of six months ending a month ago.
I'd probably have a seperate computer on a seperate line to do this, becuase it will be making a lot of queries.

killboards are the win, that would be a nice idea just do a quicksearch for kills that are needed

Hey man, I actually like the idea.
Could it use XML ? would be nice to get the data through that, and perhaps the main page/interface would consist in more statistics. :)

Well, to be perfectly honest it works just fine for me Chribba, it does the job I expected it to do, the only thing I can see me making use of would be a little more detail perhaps in the kill mails, not sure what but just somehting to spice it up perhaps?

Chribba I love you with all my heart, however podbase is the most unattractive public killboard there is. The front page should display alot more info as it's whats most important, enough about that. A killmail place would be nice too.
I miss www.eve-kill.net.
