I just rolled my first character yesterday and I was following a character creation guide. It said to train analytical mind, instant recall, spatial aweareness, and learning up to level 3. Also it said to train iron will up to 3. I do not see the skills analytical mind, instant recall, or spatial awareness at all. Learning is a category to pick sub-skills out of it. So I see iron will and brought it up to level 2 so far. I don't know where to find the previous skills mentioned at first and was wondering did I make the wrong build, is that not offered to a caldari male? Do I have to something else first to get access to these skills? I don't know why they aren't there for training?

Any skills that you don't have when starting out, you can buy from the market window. They are sold by NPC merchants, usually in your starting school station.
Just look under skills->learning. Yes learning is a category of skills, but it is ALSO a skill. Just like industry, engineering, electronics...etc. All are categories AND skills.

In EVE, you buy the skills you don't have from the market. You start out with a few skills, and most characters end up with 80-100 of them or more.
Some skills are expensive, some have other skills as prerequisites, but it's generally possible to train whatever you feel like: other races' ships, industry, combat, mining, whatever.

Thanks for your replies. I lost my ship yesterday and I no longer have the civilian shield projector. I checked the market and did not see one so I had to train engineering up to lev 2 and now need to buy shield upgrade to level one. Thanks to you all, now I know where to purchase the skill.
