Thank you CCP.
There has been a lot of disillusionment recently over the direction of Eve, but with the release of Crucible you have demonstrated that you care about and respect the playerbase. This is a breath of fresh air in the current 'call of duty' age of games development, where we are treated like cattle to be milked by flashy marketing, cookie-cutter gameplay, terrible customer service, aloof developers and evil publishers. CCP have always seemed like a bunch of mates to me, who will always be available to talk, who make mistakes, and who then apologize. Human beings. Even in the face of naysayers and with the constant demoralizing burden of excessive and omnipresent criticism from forum whiners, you are always there for us. Like a wife who is constantly abused, but who will always come back, and forgive. At any moment you could regress into the modus operandi of other game companies - but you stick to your pioneering philosophies.
There have been many rage-quits and forum whines recently, but I tend to measure the quality of Eve by whether I want to log in. Sometimes I go on an Eve-break when I feel there isn't much left for me to explore, and the most recent of those was the longest; continuing (for the first time) through and following the deployment of an expansion (Incarna). With the announcement of Crucible however, I became excited again. Now it's released I am logging in once more, full of anticipation. Eve - as far as I'm concerned - is back.
There are so many improvements that I lost track of them all - even though I have the dev blogs on a desktop RSS feed. So when I play, I keep expecting to find little improvements around every corner. The improvements that I do find therefore appear as "stealth improvements" - my favourite kind, as they feel like surprise presents.
This is all doubly impressive when one realizes that it's another completely free expansion, and the only reward CCP can expect is a thank you on the forums. So here it is.
Your humility, respect for the playerbase, and the fact you listen is the reason I became a fan before beta, and is the reason I plan to be a multiple-subscriber for years to come. CCP is a pioneer, and a shining example for developers the world over.
Thank you. |

They've done a good job, but I'm sorry, having legitimate criticism does not make you a naysayer, it can be a good idea to ignore players when you know things are going well, but when you've ****** up and you know it you should always read the forums so you can fix the problems players are having.
That said they should be playing the damn game they make so they know about problems beforehand in the first place and wouldn't even need to read the forums. |

They did well with this patch but the fact remains things had to get as bad as they did before CCP realized they were on the fast path to bankruptcy. Hopefully other developers stay far far far away from the path they took. |

CCP tried something different, and when it didn't work they apologized and made it better. How many other companies do that? I wish CCP were in government, to be honest.
I always tell myself the difference between me and perpetual forum whiners is that I've met some of the guys who work at CCP, and talked to a few more online. To me they are human beings, not a faceless company who interact with us with "community managers" who might as well be bots, spouting pre-prepared lines. I will therefore treat them like human beings, because that's how they treat us.
That's just how I feel, I understand you have a different opinion, which is cool.
And I don't feel I'm a fanboy, I have criticized CCP in the past, I just tend to do it in a constructive way. |

This is a bump, because I want CCP to read my thank you. I probably won't bump it again. |

Quiting the game because you are not satisfied the direction a game is going is a legitimate way to express your feelings. However keep on bringing your points forward in a discussion and expressing ones concerns and feelings in a thread has more validity. Find people who agree with you and try to make it a threatnaught.
When you quit a game out of dissatisfaction you also forfeit your voice in the sandbox, because let's face it. If you aren't playing the game (anymore) why would your voice carry any weight?
Those who only complain about what's wrong without even trying to put something constructive into it don't add much either.
It's easy to kick against things you don't like, but if you yourself have no idea's how to better them then why not start kicking yourself? Constructive critisism is still expressing your concerns but you also add idea's in how to look forward.

Most of us love CCP and the Dev team for bringing us this amazing game that hates us all And while we may disagree or misunderstand where the teams are going with things at times, they tend (especially recently) to take care of us and fix issues when it comes down to it.
With that said, I want to give a huge thank you to the CCP team worldwide. Your hard work makes my life more enjoyable, and I love you for it |
