JIP, I'll give you a hint, I = IN.
Any players still up and going that know what a JIP is ?
Or people that remember the rollback caused by those wonderful NPCs on the gates after the Castor (?) patch.
Better still, do we still have beta players that remember "/autopilot on" ?
And for the real old timers, how many remember "Armageddon Day" (/me hate Amarr, and CCP named it after one of their BSs) ?
I was just wondering how many of the original EVE community was still alive.
Please respond if had the joy of playing EVE during these most eventful of times --

Edited by: Draaken on 10/11/2006 22:25:55 Jump-in point. Although I wasn't there for beta - for some reason I decided to play PA back then instead of following the invitation to EVE beta; I sit here in shame - and subsequently not for Armageddon Day, I do remember some of the old stuff; some of it because I did my homework when finally starting EVE.

JIP = Jump in point... Systems usually had like 2-3 JIPS. PF-346 was always camped with tons of jet-cans / drones / mines at JIPs. Back then there was no such thing as invul timer or emergency warps. You were dead and podded while the progress bar on the black screen was crawling to load the system.
Armageddon day was last day of beta, where everyone got unlim isk and ships and all hell broke loose in Empire.
Today, EvE is very plush and soft for new players...

I was going to say just-in-time, as in just-in-time compiling. But then I noticed that it was JIP, instead of JIT.

Ahh, the Jump in points :D
You appear into a storm of jet cans with 10 MoO all around...Well I say appear you sort of got to hear you ship die.
It's funny because when you look back at the lag we had then, when you could die before you cot control of you ship after a jump, the issues these days seem rather silly to ***** about....I mean if 20 jet cans could lag you out what would 50vs50 have done then !!!!
I have fond memories of Amargeddon day, I was invited to beta about a week before that and spent the majority of it patching the client :D Got in just to see the server going down message.
Ran out and got EvE from the shop 9:01am the next day and never looked back :D
Oh, and for when you go check, this is my second character, got board @ 30mill sp and started again with a little more knowlage than the first time, funny realy I can do more with half the skill points now I actualy know what I am doing :D
Anyway, cheers all. Here's to another insane chunk of my life

What was Armageddon day? I didn't play back then, but I hear that something happened back in yon early days that involved CONCORD being given weapons of mass destruction...

I sent Draaken 10 mil ISk for being right first, but that is secondary, it should only be a fraction of his current wallet .
Apart from that, how are all the remaining ex-beta old school players doing ? --

Yep, I remember the screen freezing as I attempted to get to the JIP because there were several hundred jet cans and mines out and then waking up in my clone. I remember the roll back that went FUBAR in Beta 6.
Active since Beta 4, and no this is not the game I was playing then. Parts are better, parts are worse.

From what my homework tells me, on Armageddon Day (last day in beta), all skills got maxed, you received umpteenth gazillion ISK and all Hell broke loose on TQ. Basically contemporary Sisi on a very busy day, without the testing aspect.

I think I still have either a blueprint for or a nice amount of mines somewhere ... I just wish CCP would do something about them to make them useful again! ____________________ first!!1!! -Capsicum

I met my first Sinister rat at a JIP in Obe.
I can also remember Tenacha Khan and Tank CEO deploying the biggest minefield I've ever seen in Ostingele.
We jumped in with mainly Cataclysm Enterprises. Unfortunately I jumped first Tenacha locked me down. Tank and TLBC were already warping and Tenacha had no choice at 8 to 1. We set of the minefield it was pretty cool.
The reason I remember is because it was nice of them to arrange an in game fireworks display on my Birthday the 5th of November. That was over three years ago.
I love old characters that post 'I've beeen playing the game three years' when I know their account has been sold on.

Nice to know you are still around Jaaba.
Yeah those days of camping JIPs were something. Sometimes the lag would be so bad people would be dead before their screens loaded.
Anyone remember when you could turn on your MWD in warp? ----

Edited by: Glengrant on 11/11/2006 00:00:51 Armageddon day was the first time I managed to log in and at the time of day everything worth having was bought already. Then somebody in a BS ganked my cute little noob ship at gate and that was that. :-)
Crazy old days. No Recon ships, no capitals, outposts, cloaks, jump clones, etc...
Just frigs, cruisers, BS (nobody had any, first one used was big news at the time) and indus.
First cruiser BPO we aquired - was big multi-corp investment project. And only possible because BPCs were unlimited.
No tactical overlay, no probes, no T2.
The number of ships lost first day after Castor - due to all those much better equipped belt rats. ;-)
Those where the days. Todays lag is nothing. ;-)
No Barges, no strip miners, no advanced learning skills, no lvl 4 mission (IIRC), no Querious, no conquerable stations, no POS, no ice. We mined in deep 0.0 and did convoy ops through 36 jumps of 0.0 (didn't have sets of instas then either) to bring the *unrefined* ore to market.
Fixed low prices for offices and facs - and not nearly enough of them. Offices were a traded and limited resource in many regions.
Glengrant - still here

I remember Aurohunen JIP with *****cat camping in a Tempest...
These were the days where there wasn't a 1 minute cloaked delay for you to load the system and sort out lag, you'd jump, see a black screen and hear lots of explosions. Then you'd wake up in your clone station without a chance to do anything.
People have a nerve complaining about low sec pirates these days. |

Yep, still here.
I should go find the first systems I explored... see how much the map has changed... if I can still remember where they were.
I still remember thinking the Battleships on Armageddon day where waaay too big and waay to slow... but I still wanted one eventually anyway.
I remember being one of the few pilots in my area skilled enough to fly a Punisher effectively, and clearing belts of rats for total strangers.
I remember envying certain miners that had latched onto and survived in systems with good ore... some of which felt jaded because they already had every ship worth having (which was like 6) at the end of Beta.
I remember when traveling 10 jumps away from the noob station was a grand and hazardous adventure. And you had more trouble in many area's finding a living soul to work with than you have finding some privacy now.
I remember the bitter comments people made at the end of Beta about not being able to continue with their then highly skilled characters (LOL).
I remember the horrible blue 3D scanner thing we used to have in the bottom corner of our screens all the time.
Wow, I hadn't thought about all that crud for a looong time. I think I'll go see where I stashed my bone shards and drops of blood (I'm still waiting CCP).

Yeah Jump In Point, good times =P
Coming out of warp at 6km/s with the mwd already on was fun too. We didn't even have autopilot at one point, no highway gates in empire either. I think Amarr to Pator was a 40 jump trip with no autopilot
