I am looking into replacing my motherboard and CPU while retaining as much as possible of my current hardware.
I have a 1.4Ghz AMD Thunderbird at the moment and this is approaching 6 years old, along with the motherboard. I wish to keep my Radeon 9600 graphics card and all the other hardware, cd drives, case, harddrives and the such.
The problem i am finding is that the motherboards for the new AMD chips dont have an AGP slot for my graphics card, is PCI the way the newer boards are going or am i being blind and AGP is alive and well.
I have yet to decide on which exact chip to go for but would like to stick with AMD, I do not require top of the line state of the art stuff, but it does need to be up to date and capable of handeling EvE and a few 3d design/modeling programmes for the next few years.
oh, and one more thing,
dual core does that mean two CPU chips or one acting as two? Is going this route worth it?
thanks

I've found 1 mobo with the new AM2 socket that has AGP but I've never heard of the manufacturer and this link is in the UK.
Asrock AM2NF3-VSTA Socket AM2
Hope this helps in some way.

Edited by: ArmedSolid on 11/11/2006 19:06:18 supports both pci-e and agp
you could try one of these its an am2 board with agp ,, and if you wanna upgrade later it also has a pci-e slot aswell im sure there,s another board out somewhere that has upgradable cpu slots
edit : heh it is this board that upgrades from skt 939 - am2 |

why would you want to keep an AGP? AGP is dead and there is very little support for what is left of AGP if your going to upgrade your CPU and MOBO to current gen hardware no sense in keeping a GPU platform that is allready two generations behind. You can get a decent PCI-E card the will handle eve no sweat for less than $150 USD, check out the 7600gt or 7600gs they should right up your alley.
