At first when I heard about this bonus, being a PVP'er myself, I thought it was a great idea. As you'll know fights are often painfully easy, or far too hard, it'd balance things to make for a funner game both ways, right?
But then I read up on it and found out that it completely ruins solo piracy and has basically made what should have turned into a 5 minute fight into a 30minute one.
So what's the explanation? I'm confused about how 50% bonus to hp can give like 300% bonus to fight time?

Assume you do 1000 dps. Assume the target has 10000 HP and runs a tank for 900 hps. That leaves you with 100 dps that actually chew at his life. With 10000 hp, that means it takes you 100 seconds to get through.
Now boost HP by 50%. Suddenly you take 150 seconds to get through, because the other guy has 15000 hp.
In those 50 extra seconds, a lot may happen. You can fire your guns and launchers empty, and have to spend 10 seconds reloading. 10 seconds during which the enemy can pull back 9000 hp - that's another 90 seconds chewing for you. Suddenly you're looking at 240 seconds fight duration.
100 -> 240, that's a 140% duration increase for a 50% hp boost.
This is a very simplified example. There are many factors. Some fights may not take any longer because the other guy's tank runs out of cap. Some targets may be entirely unkillable because /you/ run out of cap before chewing through them slowly. And of course the other guy will be shooting back. So yeah, a lot can happen that's very hard to predict.

Edited by: FalconHawk on 12/11/2006 00:13:30 pretty easy: ships have more shield and armor -> it takes longer to take them down, but since it takes longer to take them down you have way more time to repair/recharge too. So a 50% increase will not only add only 50% to the fight time, you get additional time to repair, recharge cap or cry for help . i donŠt think it will be 300% longer fights, but twice as long should be easily possible.
