It's not the first time this has been brought up, but maybe one day something will be done.
Asking CONCORD for permission to shoot empty (boardable) ships legally,
without being flagged as criminal and punished by the CONCORD.
Empty shuttles and rookie ships floating at station entrances are very annoying.
Or make them vanish after downtime.

just board them instead, cause the newly boarded ship to self destruct, and boom traffic hazzard gone, and a couple thousand isk in you wallet for the insurance payout on the ship.

It is a bit troublesome to do this... first you must be in a pod, so you either have to A. self destruct your ship or B. do a fancy eject-dock meneuver to get your ship in the station while keeping you out or C. eject from your own ship which.. I don't know, seems dangerous and I wouldn't do it. There's a 30 second delay after doing any of these things (ejecting, boarding, self-destructing, re-ejecting, etc) which makes it a long tiresome process.
You won't get an insurance payout as insurance is void if the ship explodes with another pilot aboard besides the original purchaser of the insurance... so you'd need to re-insure it to get any gain, which probably isn't even worth the time it takes to dock / insure / undock.
*sigh* community service is such an unrewarding thing in this game

You can board ships from within your ship when you're within 1.5km I think.
Remember that you have to wait half a minute for the transition to finish and that you need anouther 30 seconds to board your own ship later, resulting in a 1-minute window where someone else can grab your old ship.
If it is an armed ship, you can just board it, shoot the station or a concord ship or another player, and board the other ships while you're flagged so the sentries remove them from space for just a wee bit of a faction standing loss in exchange if you're in a hurry.

just dont be too hasty to reboard your own ship afterwards....that aggro timer can be a pain at times.... |

agrees with the OP, give them a timer, if their not reboarded in an hour or something their considered space debree and anyone can shoot them as targetpractice.
I now sometimes wonder if people are using them deliberatly to cause a traffic jam, if they have a wartarget, wartarget leaves station, runs into the traffic jam that has been caused by the shuttle/newbfrig dropped outside, wartarget is forced to reallign his ship and may be easier to target.
