Well, first I'd suggest you take a look here http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=242786 , and I'd suggest you get your learning skills up if you haven't. Honestly, I'd suggest you stop anything you're doing and get them up.

wow... that reaction from mining 5...
Try Battleship 5. At rank 8 that skill will take you 5 times as long. so about 40 days depending on attributes.
If that is not enough try the capital skills. Fighter 5 will take me 48 days and that is on my two best attributes. Other capital skills get closer to the two month mark to hit level 5.

Carrier skill is rank 14. For me it's 63 days.
Only invest in skills by training them to level 5 if you want that little extra bonus, or it is a prerequisit skill. Choose your training wisely. If you train 10 skills to level 3/4 that are relevant to your gaming, and one guy trains 2 skills to level 5 you will be able to do more and function better.
Pick and choose, or train level 5's when you are sleeping or want a skill to train that won't finish when you're not around. Eventually the skill will be 1-2 days and it won't seem that long.
Learning skills are also citical and so are implants... +2 or +2's in the attributes you use as primary.

For carrier lvl 4 to 5 i am sitting on 57d.
To the OP: wait til you get to the long skills :) If your doing mining, sounds like your going to want a mining barge.
Needs: Astroloogy - Lvl 4 to 5 takes (about) 14days Mining Barge - Lvl 4 to 5 takes (about) 16days
edit: I cant spell :D --- If i'm posting on the forums, it's mostly cause i'm at work :D

EVE is, unlike every other MMO out there, all about time and patience. You cannot grind yourself to max level, you can only let time pass and your skills will eventually get there.
Level 5 is needed for a lot of the good stuff, so even though it might be tedious to train, it is required and well worth the time spent...

Careful what you train to V. :)

When I'm training long skills I don't play as much as I normally do, when I train short skills I play a lot. When I was doing the 2 month learning thing I basically played 1-2 hours a week, just enough to keep myself at a comfortable money level. Since I've been skilling up mostly just drone skills and electronics in preparation for a helios and a pilgrim, I've been playing a lot less as well. Heavy drones 5, and amarr cruiser 5 are such a ***** tbh

Why train Heavy Drones V for use with the Pilgrim? You can only haul 3 of them. Better to have 5 Mediums and 5 Lights imho (or 7 mediums).

? Are you serious? Is there no way for you to enjoy EVE until you hear: skilltraining completed? Go do what you usually do - mine, do missions, kill rats, go pirate some. Oh silly me - these things arent possible before mining V ofcourse...
