First, I don't find too much wrong with empire ganking, its sort of a gaming darwinism, and if a rich player is to lazy to at least read the forums, thats their problem.
My problem is I'm 'lazy' in game terms. I have more things I'd like to do that babysit a transport 29 jumps in empire. I have kids to play with, food to eat, carpet fibers to count, and I'd like to be able to go afk.
I have an occtor, so the question is, is the occtor enough to do it, should I put some 400mm plates on? How many hit points put you out of the raven 'gank' zone?

Edited by: Vizgoth on 15/11/2006 15:30:58 I would say put a large shield extender II and a passive em hardner in mid slot and you should be ok. Nano's and expanders in lows (depending on how much loot you are hauling). And stuff in the cargo containers to deter scanners. Tech 1 haulers is what they really go after.

Edited by: kublai on 15/11/2006 15:23:29 It's not so much hp, as resistances.
Fit 2x plates and passive resistance mods for afk hauling 1600 plate x1 or 2x 400/800+resitansce on a semi-durabel ship = win
Edith: if you're a newbie character you need to fly a durabel cruiser to dodge it if pro's actually want you dead though.

Plates and expanders will do you well.
Another helpful thing to do is chuck anything valuable and small in cans (bpos, rare mods etc). Anyone scanning your ship will only be able to see the cans and not their contents.
From their point of view they can risk a bs to kill a possibly empty transport (or one carrying nothing worth while) or take the chance. Most times folks will avoid the risk as they are looking to make profit.

Scanners can see your cargo even if it is in secure cans |

Yes, go on, give bad advise :) Cargo scanners can indeed watch tru all the containers. Solution : put 200 bms that will slow down scanning. And, dont haul with an Iteron 3, but with a transport ship as it has added defenses. -- Do YOU know, the Whirlwind? HERE |

ok..
- Fly naked, it makes your ship go faster due to less drag. Also sending me all your isk will help as a heavy wallet will only slow you down.
- Self destructing your ship is a good way to distract your enemies while you escape, don't worry about the cargo - some good simaritan will be sure to collect it and make sure you get it back safe and sound.
- Declaring the vast riches in your cargo hold in the local channel is a good way to impress the natives and ensure you get a good deal while also making friends.
- Fly minmatar ships as often as possible as you can never have too many speed holes. You also gain more speed the longer you fly as more bits fall off.
- Everyone loves a smartass.

The more valuable your cargo, the more hitpoints you need.
At some point, its easier to just fly a freighter.

yup Arguably my opinions represent to an extent the opinions of my alliance and in particular circumstances give rise to a valid "casus belli" claim. |

I think (but im not 100% sure) that energized regenerative membranes would be better on a transport ship due to its low PG and high CPU. My alt flies an occator and with its 6 low slots, i just wack **** loads of energized reactive, and energized adaptive membranes on when im carrying something valuable.

really hard. I like occtors for their sheer armor tank, but this affets how much you can haul, but good thing is i dont usl haul much more then 1k m3 at a time. --- If i'm posting on the forums, it's mostly cause i'm at work :D

It might work if you created a courier mission for yourself im not sure but i dont think they can see ur mods etc in the packaging.
Would make sense really because if you could you would know how valuable the cargo is worth and whether its a smart idea to just keep it and lose the collateral.

Usually, people are smart enough to set a collateral that equals the value of the cargo...

Or at the very least a T2 indy. Transport ships can be given a hell of alot of durability, and when your ship requires half a dozen suicide gank ships to kill, you're generally in the clear.
Things like T2 BPOs should be moved in Uber-tanked Battleships anyways. People who move stuff like that in a shuttle or frig earn their loss.

I wouldn't trust it. Use a freighter, always. Because when they pop, they drop nothing

In reply to the OP, i hate to say it but theres no "safe" way about it. If they want you they will get you no matter how much HP or Resists you have. There is other ways for example "bumping" for one is very effective agains afk'ers. And anything is possible with a well organzied team. So as an end suggestion, if it were me, i wouldnt afk anywhere exept in a station.

This would be my favoured way as well, but it's hard to afford a freighter for newer folk considering on average they go for about 800-950k from what I've seen. But it's the closest you'll get to 'guranteed' saftey hauling anything in Empire as genrally the ship will last long after Concord has arrived.
But even then that wont save you if some one is realy hard up to kill your ship for what ever reason.
Proof that Dark Shikari loves Carebears! Or is it that Carebears love Dark Shikari?

A couple further points, just because someone will do it:
-Bookmarks in cargo should be of all your loot safespots, and sniping points. Please. -Go with shield tanking and/or minnie/caldari transport if you need lots of expanders. -Industrials have lots of cpu and little PG. So hardening > plates. -Smaller cargo +100M isk goes in an armoured BS or BC.
