I spend most of my time in college so I want to be able to play eve when im bord. My first idea was to install eve on a computer but of course the college has that banned. So i copied the CCP folder from my home computer onto a DVD disk and ran eve from the CD with no install needed (Which BTW works on other computers).
The problem I found when I tried it in college is that it can't connect to the server. I am guessing there is a way to find a back door around what ever is blocking the connection but i don't know how to do it.
Can someone point me in the right direction, mabe a program that doesn't need to be installed that i can use to wiggle past the blockade?

2. Run a SOCKS proxy or SSH tunnel to an outside computer that forwards EVE's packets to the server. A home machine would work for this.

Are you positive that works? I have a friend that tried that a while ago with no luck.

Thats odd because I was playing eve for about a hour using the DVD on a computer without eve on it.

Can you publicly name your college that puts up a firewall which prevents you from playing EVE? That's just inhumane in my opinion.
And it's always better to have a computer of your own at college, EVE is playable on any modern laptop also.

I got exactly the same problem as the firewall in my college blocks EVERYTHING that is going out when connecting with a laptop via wireless connection. It only works when using the college's proxy but guess what, it only allows HTTP and HTTPS so EVE wouldn't run.
However, I am not studying computer sience for nothing and found a way to do it - but only under certain circumstances: - you need a Linux (actually any UNIX-like machine will work) box that you can SSH to - if your college hasn't been bought by Microsoft and there is a computer science faculty, chances are good that there are some Linux boxes in the network available to the students - that machine must be able to connect to the EVE server (87.237.38.200) at port 26000 - you need a laptop
What to do next?
1) Install a virtual loopback network device on your laptop, assigning IP adress 87.237.38.200 to it. Check out this Microsoft article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/839013 This will make EVE connecting to your local machine. Note: I was quite astonished to learn that EVE doesn't use hostnames (which would only require to edit etc/hosts) but instead hard-coded IP-addresses to connect to the server. However, if anyone know a more elegant way to change the server's IP-address, please let me know.
2) Get PuTTY at http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html PuTTY is a freeware OpenSSH-compatible client for Windows.
3) Launch PuTTY and make the following settings: - in the session form (the one you start with) enter the hostname or ip-adress of the machine you are connecting to - find the Connection/SSH/Tunnels option and enter into both "Source port" and "Destination" the value "87.237.38.200:26000". Also, make sure the "Local" option there is checked, finally hit "Add" to apply your changes
4) Go back to the session tab where you started, save your settings for quicker access the next times and hit "Open" to connect to your Linux box, you will be prompted for username/password (unless you are using public/private key authentication, but then you should already know about SSH)
5) After authenticating, launch EVE and enjoy the game
6) Make sure the network administrators in your college will not notice it, otherwise they might change the configuration ;)

Edited by: vinnymcg on 23/11/2006 19:01:48 Yea my college has been bought by microsoft and Dell :(
There is not one computer in the college running linux, we have 6 MAC's but I think thats as far out of the Microsoft box my college is willing to go.
Computer science is thought at the college but they all use MS.
Im getting the computer society running atm so i might be able to install Linux on one of our computer and get throug it that way.
