Since the salvager I BPO has now been seeded on SISI, I thought I'd relay the results of a lvl 4 mission to you all.
The mission was lvl 4: The Angel Cartel Spies (4 BC, 3 BS and 3 Sentries)
The following screenshot shows the log results from the salvaging operation, the total yield of salvaged parts (in the cargo hold) and a random rig BPO for reference as to quantities needed for rig manufacture.
I'll put 150 or so salvagers on the market in Heimatar/Emolgranlan when they are finished cooking.

Am I right in seeing only 2 successful salvages on that list?
Thats pretty rough........ -----------------------------------------------

I did test it some on gurrista npc's and rogue drones and out of 10 or so, only had 2 I think that didn't yield something. --------------------------------------------------------------

Rogue Drones may be better for salvaging then other ships. At least something to that effect was said by a Dev in the thread about the new regions. --- The Advanced Drone Control Panel. |

I would probably work on the assumption that mission rats (especially in high sec) will yield the least salvage, simply because you can spawn them practically at will. . ----- It's great being Minmatar, ain't it? Apologies for any rambling that may have just occurred.

Edited by: Vladimir Tinakin on 16/11/2006 15:20:45 That would be a good working theory, and makes sense.
However, just because it makes sense, doesn't mean CCP followed that logic path.
Which system is used for PvP? That would be a good one to use for salvage testing--a fair amount of player ship wrecks there, I imagine. Would be interesting to see how much more successful that is over a large number of salvage attempts.
If it does not yield an 80% or better success rate, I think the profession needs to be buffed a bit--rigs shouldn't be as easy as shuttles to build, but you shouldn't have to visit Paragon Soul to get enough material to build one in under a month either.

Check on player ships please. Also its pretty comparable to COSMOS component needs - so its OK imo. You want rigs - work for em, not farm them...

That's all fine and dandy, if PC wrecks didnt drop LESS components than NPCs...
At the current costs of 250-400 components per rig, you're looking at 200-300m per rig. ----------------

250 to 400? Where did you get that? The op's screenshot shows around 40 total components to create that specific rig. ------------- Stop whining. |

What was your total salvage percentage chance? What skills did you have and at what level, did you use salavage rigs? I want to get the base number of what you did then the max number to see if salvaging is really worth it and the price of it. It'll be like manufacuring i think at first low to no skills so high cost to make things but after skill got better prices drop

You have to let the salvager run a few times until it finds something. At least thats the way it works on the Serpentis in that odd Intaki space.

just a small question at what the maximum range from the wreck is where you can salvage.

Educated guess would be 1500 meters, as that's the can opening distance and wrecks will be tractorable.

The Max range of the salvager is 5000m.
Here's what's wrong with the OP's screenshot. 1) He didn't do very many ships(7-10). I'll try to do a large lvl 4 mission this weekend and post the resuslts. 2) He failed to note that when the salvager fails, it doesn't mean anything. The wreck doesn't go away until you succeed, you just have to keep cycling on it. 3) the BPO that he used isn't representative of what the average rig manufacture costs are. In fact, that one is probably the one with the least materials used. I've seen some that require over 300 salvage items, and I'd guess that most of the popular ones are going to require over 100. I'll try to make a listing of the BPOs, and come up with an actual average, as well.
I ran a rogue drone mission a while back, and ran salvage on it, and I didn't get a single piece of salvage off of the mission. But, I'll try again, for sure, as they might not have had the mission rats setup then.
The biggest issue that I'm having with salvage atm is finding a good ship to do it with. Industrial ships have the cargo space to hold loot from large missions(most lvl 4s), but don't have the high slots to support enough tractor beams to make looting with them efficient in the new world of salvage. The Exequror is the only ship that comes close to having enough cargo space and enough high slots for looting/salvaging in the new world, and I still find the cargo hold lacking in a big way.
Since CCP is making this a profession, shouldn't we have a ship for this profession? Lots of cargo, lots of high slots, lots of mid slots, and little/no combat ability. I'm thinking of an industrial ship geared specifically towards salvage, with a T2 variant further in the future.
