good answers guys .
Well, pirating yourself means u will b running about 99.9% of the time, u really need to get in with a group of people.
Even a miner in a thorox, will toast your frigate with his drones if u get too close.
U need to plan attacks, and remember!!, having a neg sec rating means sneak attacks are very hard, and local corps will see u coming.
Good luck matey, ill look forward to hunting you .

Get a parrot and end every sentence with 'Yarrrrr'. Use the word 'matey' often. Spit and fart.
Oh, trying to rob people might help, too. ;)

DarkM8te,
Why don't you go out on your own and start your own corp. Yeah it might be hard at first but eventually all the beatings will help you to become a better pirate. If you ask me, you should create the worst pirate corp out there, just mess with everyone, attack all and take no prisoners. Don't worry about the less aggressive coming on the forums and moaning about you, just do it just take them down all of them let them never rest infront of a roid without fear of you burning them!!!
Just my thoughts on a direction you could take.

I don't condone pirate attacks, but if you do decide to become a pirate, make sure you actually pirate and set up protection money schemes. Otherwise, you just are killing people for no profit. A) try to have someone with you who can scan ship's cargos to see if there is anything good you can get. B)Make sure you have warp scramblers and Webifiers so you can make sure they don't run away. C) Make sure to run as soon as someone who looks to big to take easily comes along. This is important, because taking losses when you are a pirate is bad, because unlike the other good folk, you can't come into empire space and strip mine scordite in a big ship to earn mega ISK. Instead, you will have to hunt npc's and sell stuff you get from players that you extort. So, be smart, play it real, and don't just be a straight up griefer who kills players for no real reason. Good luck, this game needs more bad, good and neutral people. --------------------------------------------------

well nobody ever said that if you were a pirate you had to live by any rules. I say anyone is fair game(except 1.0 systems). Just think about the status, you will get your name will be lit up in flames on here every day. A sure fire way to gain noteriety.

Respect to your intentions, just make sure you don't get caught up in any of he game politics. Pirates don't need to work for any gain, if they feel like taking you out then do it. Alliances will only turn you into a mercenary militia. Stick to your guns and let them do all the talking!!!

The best way to become a pirate in Eve is to do the following:
1) Buy yourselft a blackbird, raven or scorpion.
2) Camp the jump in point of a 0.4 sec system close to 1.0 space (such as Sarum Prime)
3) Destroy any indies or frigates that jump in to the system, and make the n00bs ph34r ur l337 sk1llz
4) If anything larger than a frigate jumps in run to the nearest station and dock, and then proceed to talk smack from the station whilst waiting for the larger ship to go away.
5) If the larger ship has not left the system after several hours, log off.

An honest response to the wannabe pirate chap. Whatever you do, don't join an existing pirate corp that is recruiting. The reason? The decent pirates don't recruit. Only the poor quality ones do.
How do I define decent?
Decent = an actual intention to play out the role of piracy (robbery and extortion on the high seas of space) and *is* a very difficult career path that involves hunting prey with the scanner, optimising your skills to quickly jamm and lock your target, developing a level 3 agent to help you keep your sec level up, and have the conversation and negotiation skills to convince your victim that it is worth paying you a ransom rather than simply self-destructing.
Your most important attributes are; your skill with the scanner, your caldari blackbird skills, your level 3 sec rating improving agent, your credibility and modus operandi. You need to build a name and reputation as a pirate that keeps his word. Otherwise people will never pay. Its also worth throwing in the occasional act of mercy and kindness into the mix to help your PR. Being the "noble" brigand "robin-hood" type will make it much easier to survive.
This is pretty damn hard and if you make it you will be known as "the new Setec" or a rival to "the jokers" but you will become an Eve-wide famous guy. The alternative is crap.
Join an existing pirate group that utilises lag-in camping, mass ganking, gang-banging and random murder and it takes not much skill (merely the ability to place cans, mines, and fire torps on command) and you become one mook in the criminal gang under the command of another "mr big".
Your sec rating will slide to -10 trapping you outside of empire and cutting off possibility.
Your name (if it is even noted) will be associated with general psychotic murder and not respected. (CE. Biomice)
You will just be a little cog in a dirty machine fetching and carrying for the old lags in their criminal syndicate.
And you may be assured that your name and rep will never really come to much.
So, DarkM8te.
This is my honest opinion. Doubtless it will get flamed by Molly, but I've been here a while now, and watched the evolution of piracy. I used to respect guys like Setec, and I have been very disappointed to watch the general decline in pirate standards.
Todays "pirate" groups tend be greedy hogs depending on production-line ganking and no combat skill to achieve a regular diet of newbie loot.
Start out on your own is my advice.
(and if I hear that you are going down the route of the proper pirate in a few weeks or a month I might even send you some isk to help you on your way.)
Its a much maligned and underused career path.
Eve today is softcore whinging "pirates" to the max ... we need a return to decent, imaginative heist merchants who do want to build a rep.
Love and peace
PS ... to the guy that asked why we are all so hard on Molly.
Its because Molly/Sally makes a habit of camping threads the same way her character used to camp noobs at gates. And anytime anyone starts a sensible in-game discussion, or makes a decent political announcement, or any attempt to play in-character, Molly/Sally inevitable arrives with a poorly-conceived, trashy, sub-standard, bulk-issue whingy-whine to lower the tone.
She has been doing it for the last four months solid, and you might appreciate that itĘs getting tiresome and old first. She is the chief of the forum trolls and frankly a lot of people are getting sick of the sound of her virtual voice.

What is all this noble crap that keeps coming out about pirates. All I hear are suggestion about becoming the space Robin hood and acting with noble intent. Why bother? a pirate is a person who robs you blind and has no regrets in doing it. They do it because they don't want the hum drum life of a miner or trader. There is no Pirate code, except cause fear and terror where ever they go. Is there any corps out there who play the pirate role this way or are they all 'Noble pirate corps'?

No, you are giving me a hard time, because I say you are a forum whoring PR spin doctor.
Your newest addition is across-the-board pirate bashing with silly name games which makes it even worse. You sound like you have met everyone you're reading on the forums in game and you sound like you have the clue and the right to comment on someone's playstyle (a.k.a dooming all Biomass Cartel members).
Wow. Impresses me really much.
I'd respect your stuff if you could for once shut the **** up about piracy, because you don't have a clue about it. Even your "History of piracy" is a I-have-read-it-all-on-the-forums-****. You are running TRADE RUNS only.
Extortion has become difficult, especially when doing it alone (and I prefered to hunt alone or with one winman). Not enough targets, everyone in battleships, nerfed items...
Extortion while not camping has always been difficult, because the ships one is using to do it, can handle 1-2 player targets well and when you're doing it at a belt with a potential NPC spawn, it's rather: "kill, take loot and good bye" or "get killed by NPCs".
Extortion via role-playing has always been difficult and very time consuming, I made 2 attemps for it and have been paid once.
Furthermore, FYI: Setec has made a post on the official forums, stating why SI is moving to the more PK/ganking style. You can't respect it, fine, it only shows how limited you are to slip in a role of a pirate and think twice about evolution of a played role.
As for me killing noobs while camping. Yeah. I have killed a trillion of them. Yet, you will have a hard time to find only one to prove your fairy tale.
And that's it: Why should someone take you serious if you can't even find one of the trillion noobs I have killed?
Unlike you I have the respect for what people achieve in the game, even for what the NVA and you as a part achieved.
Your definition of decent and crap is supportable, yet I wouldn't make me the god or big-brother or judge to call names.
Bad style. -- Kasha > Mastema, face the reality: All the juicy dots are gone. -- |

Quote: What is all this noble crap that keeps coming out about pirates.
Its about being different. IE. making a mark on the game environment. Every man and his dog are currently playing ganking-psycho-pirates blowing up everything. And frankly "yawn". Its old, its boring, and there are hundreds of you doing exactly the same night after night. Guy in this thread said he wanted to build a rep. I offered my honest advice on how he should do it.
Quote: All I hear are suggestion about becoming the space Robin hood and acting with noble intent. Why bother?
To be different. To make an impact. To do something other than running with the pack. Seriously ... If I ever went the dark side and turned pirate do you think I would be happy to be considered in the same breath as muppets like Biomice and TankCEO ... nope. You play a game to do stuff you can't do in rl ... and making a huge mark on the environment is part of that. Being the 17th mook of the 88 that Uma Thurman hacks to pieces is no decent ambition for a MMorg player in my book.
Quote: a pirate is a person who robs you blind and has no regrets in doing it.
Dullsville stereotype 101
Quote: They do it because they don't want the hum drum life of a miner or trader.
And you are telling me that routine gate-ganking is exciting? please.
Quote: There is no Pirate code, except cause fear and terror where ever they go.
I gave practical advise ... there was a reason that the successful historical pirates had a code you know ... much easier to loot a ship that strikes its colours than fights to the death because they know there is nothing to lose.
Quote: Is there any corps out there who play the pirate role this way or are they all 'Noble pirate corps'?
Virtually all pirates in the game are currently honourless dog gank merchants who kill without question for boredom and ennui.
Hence difference ... is the challenge.

Quote: WOW Jade, you had a lot to say. Thank you for your help on this. I like what you said and will listen to it when I start being a pirate.
All your beginning potential has been slowly sapped from your dark heart. You sounded like you initially wanted to be a real pirate now it seems you are listening to Jade's noble vagabond Bull, going to be the 14,000 space Robin hood. Great so where are your ill gotten gains going, feeding the poor or building a rustic encampment on some long forgotten 100k veld roid??

I'm really sorry if I've offended you, Molly. I didn't realise you didn't want me to tell people about your modus operandi.

No matter what comes and where i go, still with a pirate flag high above i'll fly towards any ship that may give it's loot willingly and if not so, i'll open fire until they do.
Binding people in place with some Electric wishwash?
Cowards i say!
Ram 'em. Shoot 'em. Rob 'em!
If they manage to get away from the blaze of my artillery then so be it. Any ship that comes near, any ship that may be shot down, i will attack.
Once i get my ship and...guns and...get all the necessary equipment and...

I think gate camping is a stupid way to kill people. Atleast hunt them down or something.

Yeah, my modus operandi you described is limited to flying Blackbird.
WOW. You offended me really much.
I stated on several occasions that I consider lag-killing at jumpin points as an exploit and that I have never done it and that it needs to be fixed ASAP.
But who cares, you, being a smart ultra-troll, have every right to post anything you want about me, because you have installed a camera in my room or taken pictures or saved logs.
Or you might be one of the people calling "Molly is exploiting by deploying cans to lag people!", where CONCORD dropped them after being farmed and where I emptied them while farming CONCORD.

Darkm8te there is good advice here and bad advice....the best thing for you to do is build up your skill points and get some cash by mining so u can pay for a clone as u will most likely get podded by pirating.
However disregard everything that came out of Jade Constantines piehole coz obviously she knows nothing of pirating and logs off everytime her precious NVA gets attacked. Take your time Dark and dont rush it. Alot of players rush to get into a battleship and get it blown up do to lack of skill points to defend themselves.
Anyway good luck

Don't agree with your views 100% but respect on the award. What do I have to do to get one, except become a pirate?

Well it seems the only thing you can do there Jade is call people names and condescend so....there is no point even listening to you. And by the way I am not a pirate. So kudos to you Jade and I loved the pic its great.

I don't know all pirate corps and its members and how they operate, but here is list (thanks Jade):
[10KAD] Crusaders 10000AD [BM-C] Biomass Cartel [BLOOD] Blood Bank [COW] CareBears on Weed [CORP1] CORP1 [CRICE] Crice Corporation [CRUIS] Mercenary Cruisers [FRIG] Mercenary Frigates
[GHSTS] Eve's Ghsts
[HOOD] Hooded Figures Inc [JOKER] Jokers Corp [MOO] MOO [NOVA] Terra Nova Corp [PAK] PAK [RAVEN] Ravens of Valhalla [REDCO] Red Corsairs [SPVD] Space Invaders [TDG] Tundragon [TLBC] The Legitimate Businessmans Club [TRAIT] Traitors... [VALK] Valkyrie Enterprises [ZOMB] Zombie Inc
So you might want to talk to some of them.
null
A pretty impressive list of pirate corps. However I'd like to differ on the part of EVE's GHSTS that we are thrown in the same pot as those other corps. We are definitely NOT a pirate but a mining/production corp who in no way affiliates with pirate organizations. So applying at one of our offices as a pirate-to-be is pretty useless as we won't even give it a second thought.
