Edited by: Alveha on 11/11/2003 23:57:01 the lay of the land:
trade does absolutelly NOTHING
mining and astro skills give 5% yield to mining EACH...effectively increasing net gain by mining characters by 5% per skill rank per minute mined.
again, trade does absolutelly NOTHING!
spaceship command and gunnery skills give 5% extra damage, tracking or whatever possible for everybody to become more proficient at killing npc rats (or each other)...effectively reducing the possibility of ship loss and/or decreasing the time required to kill any opponent (more isk, less time)
...yet trade does NOTHING!
Another handy skill, albeit not available on market...but another launch skill available through char creation only is negotiations: 5% extra isk from agents...more isk, less time
...still trade is doing NOTHING!
so, this is my challenge!
[read as this was capitalized]activate the trade skill!!!
i can see that it will not work as the description of the skill says so i suggest a couple of modifications to choose from or make something more out of: 1. Simply reduce the price of the trade good by % equal to the trade skill and/or increase the isk gained through sales by % equal to the skill level
2. create "trade route" missions - players with trade skill get better trade route missions and higher rewards. theese missions could either be agent missions or similar to the courier missions, basically the character is taking the role of a "convoy".
3. include a 25% toll/tax/service fee to all trade goods (perhaps more items), characters trained in trade gain or reduce the toll fee by % equal to their trade skill because they know how to avoid service/tax/toll payment. (difficult to enforce this...not my first choice)
more suggestions welcome...but PLEASE change this!

They should just open up the rest of the skills to get on the market... People can get all the mining skills, research skills, gunnery skills and so on, there's just missing a few social and leadship skills I think really... put them all on the market and lest forget this whole thing eh...

Only if it is put on the market. You forget the other discrepency here. Astrogeology was a creation-only skill, now it's on the market. That killed the advantage of going to mining school, other than lead time over others who didn't have it already. Trade is still off the market.
That having been said, yes, it is utterly ridiculous that this skill is in the game, used up slots for character creation skills, yet is turned off for an afaik, unexplained reason. Your 150mm Railgun II perfectly strikes Serpentis Drug Baron, wrecking for 192.8 damage. |

I suspect that the trade skill isn't working yet simply because it would be way too good if it worked as the description tell us
5% more isk / level from sales would mean that if you buy trades goods at 9.5M and sell them at 10M, with a skill level 5 in trade, you would still buy at 9.5M but sell at 12.5M so you would make 3M in profits instead of 500k
You see... it is way too good! but make the skill a 0.25% / level instead, and at level 5, you would sell the same trade goods for 10.125M instead of 10M, increasing your profits by a real 25%
That's how the trade skill should work!

Even if it's too good as it should work now, it isn't as it doesn't do a thing. Been staring at it for months and I am glad I didn't put any time in it to train.
But I am annoyed that I 'lost' a skill at creation...
