I just like having the repair tool as a "backup".

None of the launcher fixes work for me. I've tried reinstalling the launcher, reinstalling the whole client and the Steam version. The launcher has always been a bit hit and miss for me, but it's been stuck in limbo for nearly a month now. Usually a reinstall of the launcher fixes the issues but it hasn't worked this time around. It's worth noting that none of my attempts to login via the launcher appear in the activity logs of my accounts. Unfortunately the UnicodeDecode error breaks the self-update mechanism of the launcher, so we can't have the launcher update itself to fix the issue, hence the manual patch. Sorry about the fuss

What fixed it for me was to download a fresh repair.exe tool from https://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Client_Repair_Tool, and NOT upgrade it when asked.

It seem to me that all you're doing is piling bad code on top of bad code. And why is there not a separate patch that can be download without using the launcher? Too easy, maybe?

I can confirm that this works perfectly to fix the launcher (or near enough to it as to makes no difference). Thanks Bartender. Edit: Just tried the repair tool, that's still broken, and still gives the same log. I've found deleting the repair tool and downloading a new one is the only way to fix it. It will want to update when it's run, the updated version is broken, so as Viti Anirosiri also said, DO NOT LET IT UPDATE. If it's any consolation my repair tool is still knackered too.

I won't even attempt to go back to the old launcher until I stop hearing about issues with it (never?)

How did you resolve the issue with the cache? Thanks I have the OS drive, C:, and the game drive, D:. Eve and the sharedcache folder are both on the D:. The eve installed does not setup the permissions correctly. So, I changed the permissions for my user account on the sharedcache folder. "D:\ProgramData\CCP\EVE\SharedCache\" is what I'm talking about. 1. Right click on the CCP folder "D:\ProgramData\CCP\", click on properties. 2. Click on the Security Tab. 3. Click the Edit button, Click yes if prompted. 4. Select the "Users" item in the list. Mine looks like "Users (HOME\Users)" 5. Check off Modify and Write under the Allow column. 6. Click OK, wait for it to finish and click OK 7. Now try to run the launcher. That should at the very least make sure that your user account can make changes to the sharedcache folder. This also let the repair tool work. If you do reinstall Eve, then you might have to do this process all over again.
