I've playing for a week now and am starting to buy gear however... Q1. By named do we mean like 'Medium Automated I Capace Restoration' as opposed to 'Medium Armor Repairer'. Q2. The named one costs about 20000 isk, the other costs 40K isk, which gives 240 v 276hp, thats the only difference for twice the price, is that it or have I missed something? Q3. I'm thinking buy two named for the price of one un-named - Thanks in advance!!!

Edited by: B1G DAVE on 17/11/2006 11:22:09 Are you sure you haven't got that the wrong way around?
Take missile launchers for example..
The unnamed version would be - "Standard Light Missile Launcher"
Whereas the named version may be something like - "'Malkuth' Light Missile Launcher"
The named ones gives slightly better attributes, sometimes in fitting requirements, or maybe in rate of fire etc. But named ones usually cost quite alot more than unnamed items, and most people will say that the slight improvement is worth the extra cost (Which I agree with).
EDIT: Fixed the myriad of typos

Q1 Yes
Q2 Yes, although named items also have lower CPU and grid requirements often.
Q3 Sometimes a named item is worse that a un-named T1 item.
Most named items perform better and require less energy to run than un-named items.
e.g Gallium cannons or malkuth missile launchers

Someone may have put the named one on the market for less than its worth. If you can get the Automated for less than Medium Armour repairer I, go for it.

Best example of a messed up market would be
XL shield booster vs C5-L XL Shield booster
The C5L is alot better on all regards yet I can see buy orders for the C5-L for 300K and see sell orders for 350K but the bog standard XL Shield booster has buy orders for 800K and sell orders for 850K, its just silly but if someone wants to buy them at that price I wount complain when I sell my rat loot. ----
God gave us a brain, he also gave us a voice.
Shame some people have yet to connect them.

If you are pvpping or even pve'ing and the difference between life and death is 14 or so hp on that last cycle before either one of you dies then named items are worth it.
It's not always the case and imo some of the high named items don't give a suitable increase for their cost over the next named item below them.

In that case, both of them are selling for their mineral reprocess value. It's often the case that named modules reprocess for less than the T1 ones, which explains the odd pricing.
Why is the best named selling for reprocess value? I think in this case almost everyone is using the T2 boosters, and the rats drop quite a lot of shield boosters.

In general, items work like this:
officer t1 = doesn't get any better faction t1 = rare and even better t2 = best named t1 = second best unnamed t1 = average
Officer and faction loot are both very rare, and wont be something you need to worry about for a long time, but when you see an item on escrow that has the name of a faction in it, it's a "faction mod".
It's important to note though, that not every module follows this pattern. A few examples I know of off the top of my head: The 1600mm steel plate II is worse then the 1600mm rolled tungsten plate I. Arbalest Cruise Missile Launchers are better then Cruise Missile Launcher IIs... BUT the t2 will let you use t2 missile ammo, which makes it better in that regard. You will also sometimes find faction gear that does the exact same thing as the t2 version, only with slightly better fittings. Etc etc.
Basically you just have to compare all of the statistics on a piece of gear... it's really handy to use the "variations" tab on an item.

Refining yield! Sometimes the T1 module will yield more minerals than the named version when you recycle it. This sometimes boost the price of the T1 module higher than the named version even when the named version is more effective.

Sometimes Named T1 is better than T2 because of fitting and cap requirements. As an example have a look at Target Painters.
