think about it for a minute....
pre update - roughly 110 nodes for 5000 systems (say 4000 populated), average of 36 systems per node post update - roughly 160 nodes for the same systems, average of 25 systems per node
now my figures are rough, but thats still an estimate of about 1/3 less cpu drain per node.
gotta love it.

i think we can say we just put that to the test in 1v- 430 people in local before the node crashed.

The fact is the upgrade will help a lot in general playing terms. But in the end any number of nodes wont change them crashing when you have such a large number fighting in one system. That needs new code with kali or a whole new generation of hardware.
But things are looking up, cant wait for the new gang code to take a serious strain off the server.

Edited by: MolRob on 17/11/2006 14:07:14 I remember the gallente titan event, there were a lot (400?) of people in one grid. It was laggy sure, but the server did not crash and i could still play. Back in the FA days sometimes there were 100+ man blobs and the server was not nearly that crap what it used to be these days. I understand that we got more players and stuff, but we also got better and more hardware. I seriously dont know what CCP is doing Well. I hope Kali is going to fix EvE

bad code? Unlikely Kali will be able to fix something as basic as bad coding in the first place, unless its a big enough change.

there is alot of new code in kali, including alot of optimizations and other things that address performance issues. i know sisi is uber laggy but that is something that is being looked into and will be resolved before the launch of kali.

Yeah, i remember having atleast 100vs100 fights back in Curse war, and it never crashed, and was barelly laggy (compared to how it is now) and we have much more/better hardware and all the optimalizations in place. So why do i have a feeling that old EvE code was "better" then new one is? Or is it just simply by having so much more database entries and content and playerbase? (even those that are not actually loged on or present in battle)

not sure .. but i heared that long long time ago such things like tracking weren't implemented - so maybe they implemented such features after the battles you remember. wouldn't be surprised if tracking/hit chances would take quite alot of computational power. ___________________

*engages warp drive* Nothing has changed, the game lags as it lagged and in the same moments it lagged previously. Additional: I'm doing missions. *disappears in warp*

I "think" Sharkbait said that the node crashes we'd experienced in PS weren't load related and they were trying to figure out why they have been going down at all. Of course I could have just eaten a lot of cheese one night and dreamt it
