My last post was meant to encourage a discussion on the subject of the stupidity of drones, but it was considered a rant by our dear ISD. Therefore, I am reposting a slightly modified version of it.

Here's a rough description of what happened ten minutes ago when I was soloing "In the midst of Deadspace", part 5. The same thing has happened almost every time I've done missions in the past month.
Me: Ogre I's! Kill the Caldari Navy Temuras who're slining Juggernaut torps at me!
Ogre I's 1-5: Roger!!! *Flies very slowly halfway to one of the temuras which is orbiting 60km away, then stops, and begins idling*
Ogre I 1: Uuuuuuuuh *drool*, lets attack the Cruise batteries 95km away instead and gets lots and lots of aggro on us!!
Ogre I's 2-5: Yay, lets!!!! *flies very fast towards the cruise batteries, and, incidentally, several other Caldari Temuras, support frigs, Moas, and what not, who, without blinking, starts shooting the highly enthusiastic drones*
Me: "#ñ&"%/#&(ñ"% not again!!! *tries to recall the errant Ogre's*
Ogre's: NEVAH!!!!! *'splode*
Me: !"#ñ&"#ñ%/!"#ñ& X 5 as I have to buy new Ogre's...

Has anyone had similar experiences? CCP, what are you going to do about the stupidity of
drones? It kind of sucks when your primary weapons don't obey orders.

Removing smilies and asking of anyone else had the same thing happen doesn't really change this from a rant to anything else but a rant I'm afraid.

Well, then half of the other threads on the forums should be locked as well. And oh, rants can be constructive and encourage discussion.

Drones are a very cool tool to show your 8 year old daughter. Other than that, they don't really do that much good. Slight tweak of DPS but when accidents like that happens they more than take away any good they do. Personally, I use drones only when I am 100% sure I can handle the extra agro they may or may not bring and when I know the mission well enough to know which stage I can release them in.
Gurista Extra, drones are my friend.
Angel Extra, not such a good plan on first stage.
I am zealous about not loosing the drones, since I got Hammer IIs and so far have lost 3 in 2 months.

Wrong forum too, Fish'n'Mods or Missions would be far better places.

Could this be part of the problem? As far as I understand it (and I'm not a big drone user) the maximum drone control range is 45km. (From having Scout Drone Operation at Lvl 5.) I don't think there are ship bonuses or skills that extend the range to 60km, but I might have missed one somewhere...

You did- Electronic Warfare Drones pushes your drone range upp the rest of the way to 60km, at lvl5.
