I have an interesting idea as a potential fix to the immersion-breaking warp through planets...
Say the ship is at a station and wants to warp to a stargate, but there's a planet in the way. The ship would take off as it normally would, leaving the station behind, but it would hit a speed that would enable it to orbit the planet very quickly. Once the ship came around the planet and was in line with the gate, it would exit the planet's orbit, essentially using it as a slingshot, and enter warp. If there's more objects in the way, the ship would slow down to make the turn again, and re-enter warp.

That'd be cool and realistic.. But gameplay wise it'd kinda suck

The warp bubble has an inner event horizon, not much different from a black hole's outer event horizon. Technically you can't stop the warping from within the bubble, so you have to set the range/duration when going into warp.
What you see while you're in warp is an illusionary sensory input the pod systems feed you so you wont be totally lost and disoriented when you exit warp. The same holds true for the sound input that most pilots turn off because of the ectoplasm-protected and cheap speakers within the pods. Not to forget the high loss of bandwidth for the interface systems between the pilot and the ship's systems. --*=*=*--
The cause for this is not yet known, but we do have a possible fix in testing. by Sharkbait | 2006.09.20 |

That may be, but it is entirely plausible that the computer's navigation system could see that celestial objects are blocking the LoS path, and adjust the route accordingly. The ship would not enter warp until it has made it far enough around the planet to align with the object or the next point in the route across the system. The ship wouldn't be going much faster than maybe 5,000km/s.

I'd just like to quote this as the best RP reason for EVE's dodgy sound i've ever read, made me laugh.

I think Tachy's point was that the planet being in the way doesn't matter, because the ship doesnt fully exist in the same dimension or universe or something. -----

-Here's an idea, let's make gravity for the planets and let ships slingshot using it! -Naw, we're too busy nerfing the new ships. <<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>> More drone bay for Myrmidon!!! |
