Which ship class is best suited to exploring 0.0 on a purely defensive mission? I want to check out some areas not controlled by any alliances and only wish to get in and out safely. I really don't need any weapons and can be setup for defense and running only. The only thing I can't fly is capital ships, Command, and Recon. What ship within your suggested class is best suited for this mission?

I am currently in a Taranis. Would a WCS be needed or just the nanos in lows?

I'm doing the same thing right now, and I don't think you need anything more than a T1 frig + MWD. I've been roving around in a vigil and a rifter with no problems at all.

In a fast ship with a MWD>. your main fear would be a bubble camp with 600 fast tacklers. Chances are at that point, a stab won't save you.

I've gone exploring with a claw, and have done just fine. Using some common sense, trickery and tad of luck, even bubble camps can't stop you. Although it really doesn't matter what ship you choose, as long as it's a fast frig. Your Taranis should be fine. WCS and and an armor rep (offlined if necessary) in the lows. Also, I like to have a damage control (has saved my rear end a time or two).

if all ur doin is scouting areas, grab a cloakin ship, helios gallente. cant remember names for other races and u can stay cloaked forever would make life easier than havin to run from ppl. however i have not used one yet so cant be entirely sure of its abbilities but i am trainin for one. prob to use it for scouting0.0 and then prob abit of with a gang, my corp mates are trainin for stealth bombers and covert ops atm

Theres a chance an interceptor can lock you before you managed to recloak after jumping through a gate and if you get stuck in a bubble you wont be able to warp at all until you got clear. Not worth it considering the covert ops cloak costs upwards of 70mil.

Hobo : Shuttle
Middle Class Family Guy : Executioner with MWD, Extender, 2 Nanos
LOLRICH : MWD, Extender, 2 Stabilizer, 2 WCS.
Of course, its all up to what you wish to useand how much you are willing to take as loss if you get destroyed.

If you want a cheapo way of getting about, use the fastest frig you can get your hands on and fit nanos and MWD. usually requiring a cap battery too.
As for Covert Ops...
You cant Jump while cloaked but you can approach the gate cloaked...
When you are near a celestial object it will uncloak you. If you are uncloaked by being too near the gate then you can jump as soon as you hear the decloaking sound.
What you can do is warp while cloaked, or initiate your cloak mid-warp.
Theres a risk that you will warp in on a camp and get uncloaked by one of their ships / drones if you land too close by.
Also, when you enter a system you are cloaked in the way ALL ships are. as soon as you move you need to activate your cloak immediately to try and avoid getting locked. www.greng.net/eve/notexactlyninja.jpg[/IMG]

right thanks for clearin that up. so once u get too close to gate (isnt it 2000m) u will uncloak, but u will have jumped before then any way(autopilot jumps at 2500m) then on the other side move and cloak in one swoop, so ppl wont cya anyway

You'd be better off in an Ares with MWD and 4 nanos. It also has higher base speed and faster warp speed, and you can pick one up for about 6 mil! ___________________________________________

Autopilot will just complain that your are unable to jump because you are cloaked.
Don't go for autopilot, use warp to and when you get close enough to the gate that it uncloaks you, you can go straight to jump. It's better if you learn a little bit of timing of when to uncloak and jump if you really need to save time on your traveling. |

Indeed, practice a bit and get used to jumping the instant you uncloak ... sometimes you will approach and bounce off without uncloaking ...
Also turn on corpses in overview, you would not believe how many are lying around ... like anything else, get too clone to one and you will uncloak ....but you cannot see them floating in space so they are nasty little buggers <nelson>ha, ha</nelson> |
