We've done some limited testing of pos warfare with my friend, more is soon to follow but results are disturbing.
I onlined large tower (gal), and onlined 2 large blaster batterys. My friend came in in revelation and started tanking. Damage output was pathetic. When I onlined 5th battery he was out of siege, and then (not before!) he started loosing armor - he'd tank it for at least 10 mins I assume.
I will do more testing, but this clearly shows that after changes introduced in Kali (hp boost, tanking ability boost) - pos guns are becoming just a decoration. If fire of 5 focused large blaster bats. (+25% bonus to damage from tower) sloowly can start eating thru unsieged revelation, I'm assuming whole pos weaponary can't do a thing to 3-4 sieged dreads as fire will be randomly splitted.
So my question is - does plans for POS warfare for Kali include no guns and maximum hardeners, or are there any bonuses planned - like ability to focus all fire (at cost of something? stront maybe?), or some extra defensive mods. Because at it is now, battlestars will be even more obsolete then they are now (when from time to time they managed to pop siegeing carrier on their own, and provided massive firepower support if anyone decided to attack enemy fleet at own pos). ----- Love and Peace! |

Well it is technically possible to manually assign targets to a tower, I do believe. It has to do with setting standings- you set the target you want it to shoot at as -10 standing (and nothing else- -10 and a few other numebrs should be reserved forPOS warfare) and you tell the POS to "only shoot at -10 standing). Whiles its shooting that, you set the rest of the targets (in order) as -9.9, -9.8 etc. As the target pops, you just reset the tower to shoot at -9.9 targets, and so forth.
I aggree though, it'd be nice if the tower focus fired on its own. Maybe if each *size* of weapon, as a group, picked a target together to shoot at (all your larges shoot at 1 randomly chosen target, all your mediums randomly target another one ship, etc.).
Or atleast build in a "shoot at this" command into the POS interface, rather than having to muck around with standings. -----------------------------------------------

last time I was asking bout it (ont tested) I was told from 3 diffrent persons involved in pos warfare, that assigning targets by standings doesn't work anymore (since RmR was introduced I think?) - as towers take too much time to adjust to new standings give, like few hours or so.
Didn't tested it myself yet tho. ----- Love and Peace! |

POS guns are not designed to fight off dreadnoughts while you're asleep, they're to fight off gangs of smaller ships like BS and force the enemy to committ dreadnoughts to a siege, then add damage to them as a kind of selection pressure during the ensuing battle. That assumes, of course, that you interrupt the siege or that you're waiting for the POS to come out of reinforced mode and the POS is using guns that use powergrid but no CPU (so guns but no launchers) which will function in and after reinforced mode.
You're meant to defend the POS yourself, not strap guns to it and leave it to fend for itself.

yet guns should have at least a minimal chance of damaging attacking force, don't you think?
I mean, a sieging force should at least be challanged by it in some way? At the moment it's not. And you don't start pos siege when enemy has superior numbers or bigger fleet in system in first place, so saying that poses can be defended only by friendly fleet is not very accurate. ----- Love and Peace! |

Then you cant defend them i guess.
POS guns achieve one thing: your enemies' fleet will have toruble covereing it's dreads if you put up the right pos modules. You can quite easily kill a few dreads with numbers far less then those of your enemy.
