I was using my Legion w/ mobile depot to run combat sites in the backwater regions of nullsec space (well aware of the risks, still safer than WH) when this guy comes into local with a Tengu attempting to combat scan me. I warp around, shrug off my combat timer, and then log out.
I go to sleep for eight hours. I wake up, grab some coffee, and then log back in. What do I see? He's still in system and there are two warp bubbles right on top of me. I attempt to move to the out edge and align with another planet, when he uncloaks.
HE WAITED. For eight hours this guy either took shifts with friends or actually parked his toon in that spot, and was ever-vigilant for eight hours.
Fortunately I escaped. He attempted to energy neut me and in the process drained his cap and offlined his disruptor for a few seconds. I waited out the 15-minute combat timer, all the while watching his probes follow me everywhere in the system. I've logged off, and have no idea what to do next.
I could try to enlist help, perhaps mercenaries. I could also wait him out, but I'm not quite sure that would work. He has to sleep at some point, but his friends don't. Logging in again is risky. Any advice would be appreciated. |

I have been 24/7 camped into a station by no-life nullbeards. In a hawk, no less. It is quite absurd; but clearly you are going to have to try and wait them it. Use out of game intel tools or log in on an alt to monitor activity in the area, do some research and figure out what time zone the locals are most active. Maybe use an alt or pay a third party to try and find a wormhole out, or as you said try and get someone to come help.
But yes, my experience with null has been that there are people who do not sleep or have lives and they will take shifts running 24/7 camps for days on end. It is disturbing, but so it goes. You can either try to wait them out, find a way to deal with them, or just take the loss.
If they are Russians, you should probably just log in and self destruct.
(The guys that camped me did so for several days, I logged in multiple times at wildly varying times of day only to find myself immediately followed out of station by an interdictor and multiple ceptors. They did this to kill an assault frigate.) |

This. Hopefully you have at least one other character you can do stuff on, thus satisfying your EVE habit while some ****** wastes days sitting in a null backwater waiting for you to log in.

For some reason, I have a feeling that this is hurting me more than it's hurting him, given that it's likely that someone willing to do this has multiple alts that he can play with while he waits for me. He's probably also using a splitscreen application that allows him to play without switching windows constantly. |

There's a lot of hunters in this game who enjoy the challenge of catching characters in these situations, everything from small ships to Titan killers. They manage to do many other things while waiting.

I forgot to mention it, but he cyno'd in a black ops as well. Not to mention the fact if I want to leave nullsec, I'll need to refit for exploration/cloak, which requires me to use my mobile depot. I can't do that if he's in system. |

Because in WH space you can totally see if anybody is in local, right? Now who would that give an edge to? The PvPer, or the PvEer? Given that I must uncloak to run sites, and that I'll never know just how many buddies he has with him, I'd say that being able to see who's in the system makes it far safer despite having to contend with BLOPs. The goal is to avoid a scenario in which you would even be engaged by a T3 to begin with, so I don't see why BLOPs makes it any more dangerous than a pair of cloaked T3s in WH space. |

It's not cost effective to use all that time and those resources to "get you". The longer they do it, the more expensive it becomes for them. Even the epeen stroking aspect to it shrinks over time and effort. From your initial story, it seemed the guy was hit by an enormous stroke of luck and just couldn't let it go.
It's like the junkyard dog that pokes his head through a hole in a fence, sees a bone there, grabs it, then discovers he can't pull his head back through the hole still holding the bone. How long will it take for him to figure out life demands he drop the bone. He'll never get to gnaw it...unless he reasons a way to find his way to the other side of the fence....some other dog may get it...uht oh!
So, in this is all sorts of evidence that blind luck is playing a greater role than intelligence. The intelligent thing to do would have been to drop it as soon as the expense exceeds the booty. So, you can rely on the attributes of unintelligent people, one of which is the short attention span. Sure, their enthusiasm was sparked by their unbelievable luck to pinpoint you so fast. That fades fast though, and their real nature will kick in.
They'll soon start picking their belly button lint and have forgotten why they're there in the first place.
Interesting tale.

Interesting tale. What expense are you referring to here, as it literally costs him nothing but time to wait around? And if he's got a setup appropriate for this sort of thing, he's likely got his PVPer up on a screen, while he's doing other stuff on another, be that a different game, another character, whatever. Either way, I applaud his persistance, been in the shoes of someone like this, but have never spent THAT long waiting for someone to log back in. Would have to be an extremely juicy target, and even then I'd likely move on after an hour or so. I also applaud the OP for managing to slip away unscathed. |

Happy ending. He wasn't there when I logged back in, roughly 16 hours later. Either he got bored or paranoid. In any event it appears as though I'm going to be able to get home.
Translation "I don't know how to use Cloaking Devices, covert sub systems or nullifier sub systems despite the fact that I claim to be familiar with wormhole space" .
You did not properly prepare for the space you are in. Had you done so you wouldn't need to be posting here now. You also don't seem familiar with the game mechanics involve,d you should have had a safe spot, and should have been able to pop on a cloak as soon as you saw trouble coming, warp and cloak (I carry 2 cloaks, 1 prototype and one covert, the prototype is for a 'i need to pop on a cloak quickly' emergency, Legion isn't taking up cargo space with loads of ammo so it's fine).
No one should ever be able to scan you down in null because you shouldn't be doing anything with a neutral in system long enoguh for them to launch them.
As for what to do now? Call friends is your best bet for now. Best for the future is learn not to screw up like this again.

You offer good advice, but lets not start the "space that is obviously more dangerous is actually less dangerous" crap high sec people love to spew. Wormhole space is measurably less safe than null because of local chat, period. Every metric CCP has ever revealed about kills in various parts of EVE prove this, WH space is the most dangerous. |

When I have been in a system, both gates bubbled and we are trapped. We all just went off and self destructed, ripped out implants and killed our pods. If it is a certainty that I will lose the ship so fast that it has no hope of taking one of them down then I might as well deny them the kill, going to lose it anyway.

He's probably also using a splitscreen application that allows him to play without switching windows constantly. Didn't he add you to his watch list so he spent 0:00 time worrying about you until you logged in?

I deal with this pretty often since i solo roam in BC/BS. But i get enjoyment frustrating their prober(s). Its pretty easy when youre waiting out your timer to make safes to bounce between. Warp 15+ AU when you see probes, then wait until probes are within 5AU. Then warp to next safe. Once your timer runs out, warp to farthest safe and do safe log off while monitoring dscan. Ive never had a log on trap waiting for me.
Ive also been extra sneaky by swapping in ECCM using mobile depot and getting high SS just to make the prober work even harder.

You may not kill him without a scram but he would run away leaving you alone. Bait him and fight. If you're running combat sites I'm guessing your tanked and can do dps. Slap him a bit. Be more fun than what you're currently doing.
a really dumb advice, in a pve fit you should never try to fight a pvp fit, you will most likely lose in 95% of all attempts. He might also be prepared for next time, have friends next door etc. Even in pvp fit you always should know what you're doing, have eyes in all adjacent systems etc, or you get owned pretty easily. |

Opportunity cost. The entire time he is sitting waiting on you logging on he could be doing something to earn money. |

+1 to the pilot hunting you. you must admire his desire to remove you from that ship manually. |

Perhaps you misread me, nothing is stopping him from logging in an alt to do just that, which I pointed out. As I said the only cost to him is time spent waiting, which is moot due to the fact that he will most likely be doing other things while he awaits the return of his target. As I said though, that length of time is a bit excessive for a login trap, I would've moved on to other targets significantly sooner indeed.
Edit: as an aside, there's also the possibility that he, like myself could care less about "earning" isk as it's freely purchasable via PLEX whenever needed. Or perhaps he is hoping to make bank on some particularly shiny mods that could be fitted to the OP's ship, in which case he's doing what he would normally do to make some extra ISK. |
