I heard that on the Chinese Shard, they can go from trial to flying a Dreadnought within a month. I think this is horribly unfair, however for valued customers...
I think that during DT on Christmas Eve, whatever skill you are training automatically completes level 5 regardless of what previous levels are complete. Merry Christmas! Only one skill though.
Want Large Hybrids level 5? Buy the skill book just before DT and start training it, by the time servers come back up, Merry Christmas!
I don't think this will throw much off and it's a nice touch for those that have been playing for a long time.
Thanks.

I would go for it, as long as the skill is training, whatever it might be, (so you must have pre-requisites) I would love that as a present. Would be bad for all the new characters, because they probably have low ranking skils.

We have to be careful about trying to say which skills shouldn't be bumped. Because, what about SOCT learning skills? I would have no problem with boosting those as most people never take them to lvl 5 because it's not worth it as it stands.
And, besides, it will balance out in the end and here's my argument:
If a person realizes that once a year CCP will boost a skill (regardless if it's a spec skill or not), then they will plan their training around this fact. They might wait a few months before training BS level 5 waiting for Christmas to roll by. Meanwhile, they are flying around with BS lvl 4 if in a BS at all... Not to mention, inherent to the fact most people will focus and plan their training around such a benefit will render pilots who are very specialized in one or two things and I don't think that's a bad thing.
Argument in support for spec skills. Anyone with spec skills has it already at lvl 4... how many rely on a spec skill that isn't lvl 4 at least? Heavy Assault Ships lvl 4 is probably most common with HAC pilots. Giving them that little extra umph is a matter of saving time, and that's the whole point anyways without giving them a huge advantage (Like, 2% damage increase for Gunnery Specialization Skills which are already at lvl 4, so it's not a big deal to bump it another 2% to level 5.)
For newbies, this is a huge advantage, because most CEOs would encourage all their newbies to set a Learning skill for Christmas to rapidly increase their attributes (which in turn will put them in the T2 market/game a lot faster).
As long as it's only ONE skill, regardless of what it is, to level 5 it is no big deal as long as everyone gets a free level 5 skill. For the older players, so what if they get Gallente Carrier lvl 5... odds are, other older players too will make a choice what they want and they too might choose a capital related skill. Let's be honest, someone will get the idea that they'll train BS to lvl 5, and without all the other support skills, it really won't matter much when the ball drops ya know? It will just save us all a little time in the long run. (Remember, only one skill. BS lvl 5, but if you don't have T2 Large Hybrids, that require multiple lvl 5s... OK, well... you get what I mean?)
I do not think it would disrupt anything greatly, and it will move the entire EVE population forward at a reasonably even rate. Oh, and besides, it's a Christmas present, and Christmas is only once a year.

c'mon guys, I think this would be great! But it won't catch CCP's eye if only a few people notice it!
Christmas presents are ALWAYS a good thing! (Unless it's your Aunt May who has no idea what to give you and always gives you the present with underwear inside it!)

Simply because theres crapload of skills and they take insane amounts of time (even when highly specializing).
EDIT: sure, it wouldnt be fair for those who already have them maxed, but *shrug*... cant please everyone, no matter what they do --- Get rid of those *bleep*ing secure containers. *bleep*! |

Actually, I kinda like the idea of bumping Learning Skills of all Kinds 1 level, of course Entity will be upset :-). But then he owns half the good rare cute stuff in EVE.
Anyway, however it turns out if CCP decides to bump 1 or 2 or 10 skills, I am all for it - it would be the best X-mas ever.

I think to be fair to all players just a fixed amount of skill points is ok. or raise the attributes of the player. or just some additional free time (also because of the blade-changing downtimes).

I agree with that , completing a skill to lvl 5 its not fair for all the players ... think about it: one is traning drones for ex (rank 1) and one is traning titans ...

Edited by: Durethia on 22/11/2006 00:26:14 Another suggestion, or implication, I much enjoy and would really wish CCP would do it. Give everyone +5 to all attributes... let us ALL train a little faster.
Or, better. The lowest attribute gets a +5 permanent boost! That's skimpy enough for CCP and still a nice little present that won't disrupt very much.
Yes, I like it. +5 Boost to your lowest attribute on Christmas Eve!

I understand this concern but let's think about it.
CCP decides to do this (hypothethically).
CYVOK is left with a choice for his christmas present. He reviews his skills, which do you think he'll choose to level 5?
He can fly a Titan, but really what can he do with it? It's not an everyday ship, and in a sense, it's not JUST HIS ship; meaning, ASCN members would have a right to ask questions and investigate it's loss, it wouldn't simply be "Oh, dummy, don't be a noob next time fly with a scout!".
I wager, CYVOK would chose a skill that will better improve his day to day activities. Lvl 5 Titan wouldn't be all that beneficial for him. Heavy Assault Ships lvl 5, Command Ships lvl 5, Covert Ops lvl 5, or some Industrial skill to lvl 5 would be my best guess.
Another suggestion, or implication, I much enjoy and would really wish CCP would do it. Give everyone +5 to all attributes... let us ALL train a little faster.

I'd like to see +5 to all skills. Just +5 to lowest means everyone gets more Charisma, which is a pretty lame Christmas present for most of us.
Actually, I'd like to see +10 to all skills. It would make a super-huge difference for the newbies, and even vets would benefit considerably from it, but it wouldn't do any real harm to the current balance.
I can't believe that did what they did to HP and won't consider a buff to attributes accross the board. -------------- Civis Ascendant Sum |

*sigh* well, we certainly won't get this for christmas... doesn't seem to be attractive to the majority of pilots... only 17 replies.
I personally would like to have a boost to attributes... first time you log in after christmas, your given a screen to allocate some attributes however you want to.

Interesting idea, actually. I doubt it will happen, though.
can the Chinese shard really got to dread in a month?? Isnt that a little Monty Hall? wth is CCP thinking? that would kind of suck if there were ever any inter-server compititions having a 6 month player defeat a 2 year player is kind of ridiculous. but I digress.
extra stats would be great to have, extra unassigned SP would work too.

Instead of a stat increase (which they shouldn't give out anyway) why not a shuttle? But not the common, crap shuttles. Well; maybe more like the improved character creation skill difference compared to old players.
When creating a new character today you get about 800.000 sp, this is in principle unfair to old players since they had to start from a lower level.
CCP could give older players a "x-mas" gift comparable to maybe 1/2 - 3/4 of the difference of "then" and "now". The sp could be applied to current skill and subsequent chosen skills until the "gift" is depleted.
Other players could have the snowballs floating in space from last year

I agree this would be nice as in WOW when it was Halloween we had pumpkins and could go trick or treating. I am 28 years old and it has been along time since i have been trick or treating but was fun.
mix the game up a little bit CCP add some seasonal features as i doubt we will be given free SP\s. ------------------------

In reality giving a free level 5 skill would be unbalancing. And the talk about setting a learning skill to 5 for faster noob training is overshadowed by the fact that some people would be saving about a week of training time and others would cut off 2+ months (Carrier V anyone?). It would benefit only the older players in a very disperportionate way. Best thing to do would to give a free #'d skill point boost. Something along the lines of "Happy Holidays: we've given you a 100K skill point boost. Enjoy the new year."
If CYVOK & Shrike want to train Titan/Doomday Weapon Operation to V, let them spend the months doing so. It requires months of dedication to specialize in a field and I'd hate to see someone getting it all for free, when I'm spending the time & money to do so.
Personally I'm hoping that CCP will give us a corpse launcher for X-mas, so I have a use for all those bodies I keep bumping into around Jita.

Edited by: Tran73 on 05/12/2006 19:38:26 Lets face it, we are all vain. Anarchy Online offers a pumpkin lantern that looks terrifying and hovers over your shoulder. Does very little for you but it looks incredible. The game is old, outdated grafics and has a hard time giving away trial accounts for free at this time. I still pay for my account after ~5 years as I am yet to remember to get my pumpkin on Halloween. I vote for something along the lines shuttle slay. Nothing quite so seasonal, something that would look cool year round. Perhaps this... a gift ship that is a standard ship (fleet issue if your feeling in the giving mood.) Based on the life of the account it tiers: uner a year a gift frig over a year gift cruiser over 2 BS and so on. Here's the vanity part: Give the ship a unique skin, that apeals to my vanity at least. Perhaps All chrome, I know this would tickle the minmatar pilots at very least. If thats impractical perhaps a pet drone that circles the ship, 0m3 drone size. Choose from 1 of 4, nothing complicated but it does give you something visible to show you've been around the region a time or two. Collect all 4, collect 4 of the same. Works for McD's :D Any who if its going to be a gift, make it year round cool thing. Not something that is just fun for a month. Perhaps something that can be lost, perhaps something that can not. Best of the best would be something that the devs & designers have fun doing. I am against anything that messes with the balances. Eve team has worked to hard creating a good dynamic as it is. I think I shall start a seperate post for thanks as a matter of fact. If free ships just sounds like a programatic nightmare, how about just puting a new paint job on a ship already in hanger. Perhaps a flag you can mount on the top of your ship with your corp logo for corporate or aliance gatherings/show of strength?
Oh, and if presents are a no go, fear not... Im sure we all see Revelations as gift enough!
