Edited by: Vix3n on 21/11/2006 14:50:41 Are you: -A current hauler and having a hard time finding reliable work? -A relatively new player who is interested in exploring the financial possibilities in the trade industry? -Looking to make money buying low and selling high, but don't want to run around the galaxy picking up your wares? -Honest, reliable, trustworthy and respectable?
If so, keep reading.
Since my post, HERE I have been seeing multiple similar posts pop up, all with similar objectives: Finding hauler work. So, I decided that because I am a [forum wh_re] and I do communications for a living, I might as well try to organize, operate and run a successful hauling service.
I have recently been given permission to run a department under Proton PowerÆs corporation: Power Corrupts Trading Inc. A few of us that have started the service have dubbed it ôFederation Express Shippingö. This adventure will be a flexible, fun, profitable, learning experience for all participants. Obviously, the more haulers we gather together, the more / larger scale jobs we will be capable of.
Objective: Offer a reputable, reliable and respectable shipping service to the mass public.
Reasoning: If there is one thing that you have learned in EvE thus far, it would be that reputation is success. If people trust you, you can do great things. With Kali coming out soon, the need to trust people for work will cut down due to the contracts system. So, I wanted to start this operation before that trust diminishes. I want the word to get around, that there is a shipping service that is risk-free (by reputation and testimonials).
Why the need for such a service? Why not just go look for a hauler?: Trust. Trust is what holds this fragile world together. Are you more likely to trust your millions of dollars worth of cargo with one person who has a few good comments on him or a shipping service that has a long list of player-posted-positive-testimonials with no negative feedback?
Inevitably, this will make it easier for people who need things hauled (and donÆt want to wait for their random courier missions to be accepted by players) to find someone to move their goods. They can contact one person, send them the job description and have faith that the job will be disseminated down to trustworthy employees to finish the task in a timely manner.
To the applicants: I intend to receive the bottleneck of job opportunities, keep detailed logs of the work given, and pass down the work to those of you who are accepted. The more trustworthy and professional you prove yourself to be, the more trust-needed jobs / higher paying jobs you will receive. I am looking for literate and comprehensive applicants only. If you cannot communicate efficiently, you will have a hard time gaining respect, and therefore, work. On a lighter note, the team, while waiting for work (if there IS any downtime) will be brainstorming on other ways to profit from collective input from the members. The goal is to always be making profit that is higher than the yield a solo player will reap.
After the project gets into full swing motion, more organizational and promotional ideas will be promoted and developed. I will be advertising in the Selling Orders channel promoting our service. And I will also offer a public place for satisfied clients to post their feedback.
If you feel that you may have something to add to this operation, please do not hesitate to contact me here, or via eve-mail.
Reputation, Reliability, Respect.
Signed,
|

Vix3n, glad to see you've moved fast with this since your original epiphany : ) I've been doing some hauling work, but the differences in pilot's schedules and free time can be hard work for a solo-hauler to accomodate - along with the issues of trust you've mentioned.
Could you contact me in-game with more info., or let me know where to go to find out more? I'd be proud to fly under the Federation Express banner : )

Right now, it is not required that you join Power Corrupts Trading Inc. I will be running the majority of the operation in a private channel. As part-time-haulers (such as yourself) gain respect and reliability they will be offered the privelage of joining under Proton's corporation. You can haul under my name, while I organize under Proton's without being in the corp at all. Thought, eventually being a static member of the corporation should be a common goal for applicants.

I'm not tapping into your market am I? I don't want to steal TOO much employment. Not trying to step on toes. Just trying to be beneficial to powerful people who don't have time for small tasks.

Glad to hear it, shoot me an eve-mail and I'll let you know the channel. And, yes I agree, thats another reason why this is being forged. I intend on having work in the queue to be given out to what-ever pilots are available to haul. So instead of 30 haulers looking for work, there is one hauler recieving all of the work and delegating it down.
It should save everyone a lot of time and energy.

I've just joined their corp, and Proton and Vix3n are both very reliable people to be working with At the moment, business is slow because we are just starting up, but later on we will (hopefully) have multiple contracts running and many jobs to be done. Even though things are still a bit iffy, drop Vix3n an evemail if you want to join, or if you have jobs for us.

How will you tackle destroyed hauler problems and the loss of items? Who will carry this risk: the client or the corp?

Undoubtedly this will differ on a case by case basis. Are you talking about cargo-scanner's and suicide killings on haulers? Or just unspecific attacks in lowersec space? Obviously this will be discussed with the client when collateral is negotiated. I do not wish to sit here and promise that the corp will fund for all suicide popÆs because that would just open doors to æingeniousÆ players who will give us a job, intercept us, take back their cargo and then charge us again for it. Recently we were given a job by someone that required 3 or 4 lowsec jumps and the client agreed that there was heavy pirating in the area, he agreed that any loss of cargo and the ship of the pilot would be refunded at no expense to the hauler. The collateral was simply for fear of theft. When we begin to dabble more with lowsec hauls, I do intend on using blockade runners, if not sending the hauler with some protection as well. On contract runs it can be expected that we will setup instaÆs to shift their cargo until the release of Kali.

The contract system might add even more need for your services. My understanding is that with the new system, you will be able to create large numbers of contracts that are assigned to specific people/corps, but limited to 15 contracts that are open to everyone.
As it is I am starting to use alot more courier missions to move goods, as I just don't have time to ship all my runs as my business grows. I would be interested in possibly working out some arrangements with a hauling corp, depending on pricing.
Some sort of guide lines would be nice on your expectations regarding rewards, colateral, volumes, etc... Most of the work I have has an open time line as long as it is completed within a week or so.
I will drop a note to you in game when I get home with a bit more information on what I am looking for, or you can drop me a note or post on the forums here a bit more about what type of work you are looking for.

Thanks thanks. Yeah, I've been putting a lot of effort into the organization of it all, planning, contact sheets, pilot bio's spreadsheets that tally successful jobs run by each individal pilot, logs of all job orders. Ect ect. It's unfolding nicely. It's looking that we are about 90% sure that we will be splitting off of PCT's main corporation, and will be forming our own corporation for the hauling service and will most likely be forming an alliance called "Power Corrupts Industries". A post about that can be found here
I am getting some really good applications from pilots that are interested in flying under an honorable flag I've got no complaints on this project so far!

Yes, I am very excited to see how the contract system works. I think that it will prove to be very useful. Do drop me a line. We are definitely ready to handle some constant work.
And to everyone else, thanks for all of the feedback and support!
And *salute* to my pilots

I semi-regularly issue courier missions for single-digit m3 of cargo worth anywhere from a few million to a billion isk or more, for delivery to low-sec space. If you'd like to send me a price guideline per jump for service to a station 2 jumps into low-sec space, I'll see if I can't shift some work your way.
