If i have understood right factional warfare is coming, with benefits for people fighting for their chosen empires/faction. Now already there are people that have choosen to stand ooutside this fight by attaching themselfs to pirate factions by doing missions for them and geting a nice positive standing to that faction, a standing that is quite difficult to maintain if you are to participate in mining ops, rat hunting or just traveling arround space because ships even from the faction you are working for are attacking you. Now why would the pirate faction attack you when knowing you and having a nice standing towards you?
Now my point is that while working for a one of the pirate factions or their friends and geting a nice standing towards them, they shoud give you benefits as well, atleast stop shooting your ship. Say at a +5 faction standing the pirates stop shooting you unless you are in a belt mining, unless you have bought say an "access right" from them to mine in their space or the space they patrol, at a +7.5 rating you can mine without this right(just an example). But if you chose to shoot one of them your faction standing drops to 0.0 in just one kill. Hey i do not like my friends shooting at me either!
This is just a suggestion, and woud give pirate faction agent runners an addisional reason why to do missions for their favorite faction.

Man, if we could carebear our factions standings to the point where we could mine in 0.0 without dealing with rats, we'd be freaking set.

LoL,
When I first started Eve, I thought I was going to join up with the Angles and run missions for them. Ah well.
But you wouldn't be "set". 0.0 space still has pleanty of player pirates and those pesky alliances that figure they own territories where they build their space stations and stuff. Shya, as if building a space station gives you the right to blow up anyone who's in that solar system.
