Can a machinhaw tank 0.6 rats?
Im thinking 2 passive hardeners and 2/3 sml shield extenders to give me enough tank for around 10mins for a cycle.
Or will i have to go for active shield booster and hope i have enough cap.

not sure what fits on it and what not, but I'd something along the lines of damage control low, EM shield hardner(passive seeing strip/ice miners eat a lot of cap when theye cycle) shield extender(medium should fit) small shield booster and inv field.
aux power or pdu in low.
as for tanking 0.6 rats, my coveter with a small armor repper tanks 0.6 rats while drones kill them, seeing resists on covetor armor and mackinaw shields, 0.6 rats shouldnt pose a thread ;)

I easily tank rats in 0.5 space with a Retriever and that's nowhere near a mack, nor are my skills in that line of business.
Single mid slot has a small cap booster with 50 or 75-sized cap charges
Low slot has a small armour rep and 100mm rolled tungsten plate
4x whatever drones to suit the type of rats the system (that's all I have skills for) with a couple of levels of combat drone ops, drone durability and drone nav skills. I don't even blink at that with anything that comes into a 0.5 space.
Yup. Your mac will have zero problems tanking anything down to 0.0 space.

You don't want a cap booster if you want to tank forever.. try a cap recharger.

If you have a drone bay full of tech II drones, you don't need to worry about tanking 0.6 spawns in a Mackinaw. Just fill your lows with Ice Harvester upgrades, and fit whatever shield-tanking gear you can with the CPU you have left.

mining barges are not really a thing I'll want to tank forever anyway, jsut long enough to kill rats or long enough to get away from pirates ;)

oh lol...i know what a MACKINAW is. When you read it, phonetically it doesnt sound anything like mack-in-aw. I read ma-chine-haw.
But anyways like others had said go for a mainly passive tank, you might even be able to passive shield tank them if you work up a decent shield recharge rate.
EDIT: btw balian is my alt, for somereason the forums keeps switching the default poster back to him
